Need to just take the train, down the southern line, and test all these areas out.

What do you actually need when O&A ? And how far do you explore on a rented MB when at any one base location ?

Do you travel with companionship, or search for at locations ? Or need, want at all. Unless a larger 'tourist' area, you wont find P4P, any place smaller than Hua HIn. Not that nightlife won't be available, but nothing you'll notice on your own, without more research.

I've stopped replying to your queries, as you ask about so many, then after I reply, 10 of so posts after, you come back with " 'soulless', maybe I'll go to XXXX instead "

Wife & myself, we simply travel for different views, and many times, the journey, different viewpoints along the way are more interesting than the destination towns, if there even is a town, more than one cross street & 3 restaurants anyway.

Why we like a view from the room. Recent trip had riverside, mountainside, limestone karst view, lakeside & surfside views from the rooms. Weather pending, can sit on veranda / balcony, or bed in room for same view.

Never really bored, having each other, dog and laptop for torrents, if having. Don't really do touristy stuff, as been there, done that already. Sitting at accommodations or restaurant/coffee shop is about as touristy as we get. More about finding something unique, or pleasant setting.

We'll pop into town area for a munch, if having a town area, or eat in at accommodations, again, if even having a restaurant, or something nearby. Also why we travel with a microwave, and comes in damn handy sometimes.

Viewpoints, and maybe a new bird species or critter to snap a photo of, and I'm happy.

Not that we actually need to leave our local Amphur for a view, but we see them everyday or week. Having 3 lovely bays locally, < 15 kms, along with 100 kms both N & S of (western Gullf), our eastern coastline and rolling hills to the west. Always nice see something different elsewhere ...

Immediate, < 5 kms local area ...

I find it hard to make a decision. 5 places or 2. Some small places have limited food. I dont need bars but restaurant choices are good. If I ask the gf she says "up to you"

Having a good value room helps too. Nice area to walk along or nice beach. Also i like to use a gym.

I will just wing it I guess. Go with the flow.

OK, so you bring companionship with you, and answers a lot. Interesting restaurants, a priority, comfy digs, maybe a pool, and a view.

Shouldn't be too hard, especially since you don't have a dog, which limits us on accommodation choices. So that will be exploring like I did, first couple years, before owning a car.

Which for convenience we stayed in main town areas, and a bit larger towns. Where we live now, the smallest town visited, or a beach nearby, such as Thung Wua Laen near Chumphon.

With that in mind, not a fan of Cha Am, I'd start at Hua Hin. Rent a scooter, pop down to Pranburi Beach, till bored, then do the same down to Thung Wua Laen, on the MB.

Stop at Pranburi Beach, Sam Roi Yot, PKK, Ban Krut, not much of a fan of the Bang Saphans. To break up the ride, Ban Krut to Thung Wua Laen, if still wanting to go further, maybe a stop at Bo Thong Lang Bay, (Suda Villa), and pretty bay w/pool.

Keeps the scooter from Hua Hin as rides about 1+ hrs between stops. Less hassle than train to each and sorting a MB at each spot. Along with getting to/from train station.

Stretch between Hua Hin & Ban Krut is only 200 kms, so no real long scooter ride, and quite pleasant all the way down the coast.

Longest stretches being Sam Roi Yot to PKK 1+ hr / 68 kms and

PKK to Ban Krut 1+ ht / 70 kms (though good portion on Hwy #4)

You could even take the train w/MB back to Hua Hin at Ban Krut, and a good option.
