Thailand is far right

Featured Replies

Thailand is an autocracy: The system is loaded against progressive parties, and the country’s political spectrum is skewed far to the right by global standards, making even moderate reforms appear radical.

Which begs the question why are there so many far left farangs there?

Well speaking personally, I uprooted myself from my home country, moved to Northern Thailand, married, raised a daughter, had a fulfilling and enjoyable second career teaching, and now live in peaceful retirement, specifically because it would really upset you!

Thailand is currently, and has been for some years, entrapped by a combination of money politics and a power hungry establishment. The people themselves are far from "far right".

Best way to see, besides guessing, is take a poll here, as this forum has a lot of foreign members. I'm neutral, not taking either side. How about other members?

Thailand far right ??

Is that why they usher in WEF standpoints ?

The people of Thailand are the furthest thing from "far right" So the real question is why are there so many far right boomers (who can't seem to leave their culture war bullsheet back home where it belongs) there?

TH is definitely right leaning. I wouldn't say "the system is loaded" against the left, but the left leaning parties are new, so with all new parties, they have to fight their way into the game.

With the old, conservative based military firmly in place in politics, and the amount of coups, hard to say TH is not right leaning.

It depends. Handing out 10000 baht to every citizen is not exactly far right economic Pinochet-like policy. Neither is free healthcare for every citizen.

Instead of a 👎, why not present a rebuttal of my post. Explain how TH is left leaning, considering since 1932, TH had 12 military coups and 20 new charters or constitutions.

That's a big difference from being a leftist!

Myself and AI would disagree with you ...

When it comes to Thai politics, I wish Norway and Europe had the same system when it came down to foreigners wanted to live and work in Norway, rights to own land, and how to get citizenship, and welfare.

18 months for my wife to get family reunion, and she can not travel to Norway during the application! When I applied, I could travel in and out, and renewal is 4-5 hours.

Weird.

This thread is about “Thailand is Far Right” and has nothing to do with the left's obsessive MAGA Trump disorder.

  • Popular Post

Let's see what AI have to say!

Thailand isn’t “far right” like Europe or MAGA-style politics

Thailand doesn’t fit neatly into left/right categories used in the US or Europe. It’s better described as:

Authoritarian / conservative

Monarchist

Military-influenced

Nationalist (but not populist-far-right)

Why people call it far right

People label Thailand “far right” because it has:

Strong royalist ideology

Harsh lèse-majesté laws (severe punishment for criticizing the monarchy)

A history of military coups

Repression of leftist, reformist, or radical movements

Those feel far-right to Western observers — but that’s mostly projection.

Why it’s not actually far right

Thailand lacks key far-right traits, such as:

Mass racial nationalism

Anti-immigrant populism (Thailand relies heavily on migrant labor)

Ideological culture wars like gender panic or religious extremism

Electoral far-right movements driven by popular mobilization

Power in Thailand comes top-down, not from a radicalized voter base.

A more accurate label

Thailand is best described as:

Authoritarian conservative state

Elite-driven nationalism

Hybrid regime (neither liberal democracy nor ideological fascism)

Bottom line

Calling Thailand “far right” is oversimplified and misleading.

It’s authoritarian and conservative, but not far-right in the ideological sense people usually mean.

  • Popular Post

Trying to break down the Thai government is a fairly useless task since they're changing so frequently, and it's very hard to label them with any kind of consistent accuracy. The people themselves might be largely conventional, l but I wouldn't call them conservative, for the most part.

Knowing your political predisposition, you are trying to justify conservatism in the US, which is on the decline, it's falling apart, the Trump experiment has failed in a gross, pathetic, and ridiculous manner, and many conservatives are currently defecting from the party and extremely disappointed.

The results of Trump's first year

has been a total disaster, and Americans are just beginning to feel the pain from his policies.

Where? I've found the expat community to be far more conservative than liberal. There's a "Trump Tower Bar" in Pattaya now. Still waiting for Pelosi's Pub 🙂

That, and the obvious absence of any efficient checks on past convictions etc. would go someway to explaining the number of "teachers" that choose to retire here, along with those who continue their "activities" whilst "teaching" English often for ridiculously low wages, often online

The leftists similarity to catholic missionaries doesn't end there either, what with them polluting social media and forums like this one, continually trying to force their views on normal people, constantly berating normal people who's views do not align with theirs

Hopefully those that I have mentioned above continue to be in the minority, and the rest of the, presumably, more moderate ones . simply came her for an "adult themed" holiday and enjoyed the availability of cheap pay for play pussy so much that just like the rest of us. they decided to stay

Everything is "far-right" to some western "observers"

They lack racist nationalism because they have not yet allowed themselves to suffer the invasion of uncontrolled immigration That will be coming soon if the left wing "progressive" party gains popularity (god forbid)

Still it seems to go against Usa because of their president and Ice. Canada turning against Usa, Uk seems to be searching towards China, and Europe looking within and also towards Asia.

Do you admit most who are labeled leftists here at the forum cant really be leftists or not ?

Are Magas rightwings or not ?

Its a label tossed around with such gay abandon on this forum as to have lost all meaning.

Which kind of tracks to my fist post in this thread.

Those of us in the middle are smeared as Nazis by actual National Socialists because we believe in common sense and support our Presidents policies.

I do not which planet you live on or which reality you see, but ? Well, you seems to be all over the place, peace, war, accept dehumanising of people, label people as leftist, terrorists and whatever you find convenient and convincing preached by your government. A blind follower if I may say so.

Some seem to know everything about us, even though they've never been within 100 miles (160 KM) of us. I was thinking they might have access to the governments cameras, CCTV, and are following us around to see what we're doing during the day.

Just another typical flame ho hum. Making it personal shows you have nothing to back up your arguments, as alwys.
