The tourist status may be an assumption? Especially since it happened in the epicentre of tourist activity on the island.

I'm more concerned that the police were only alerted after his death, some 6 hours after the alleged assault.

Then I remember where I am and it all makes perfect sense again.

The article does not say the police were not notified when the patient entered the hospital.

They could have already been investigating the crime as the author of this article has no inside information on what happened when except for the fact the death was reported at a certain time of the day, it does not mention no initial contact was made to the police.

Yet another knock down comment from the negative farangs of Thailand (thankfully most of us love the place and do not spend all day moaning about it).

If Thailand is so bad why not go and live somewhere else?

I bet the pick up by the ambulance was quick and there was not a long delay as happens in some Western countries.

You're jumping to a massive number of conclusions based on a very limited amount of information, first of all we don't know if the altercation was with another foreigner, so there's no need to blame Thais unnecessarily, secondarily we don't know the nature of the altercation, a simple slap in the face can result in somebody falling down and hitting their head on the concrete which can easily result in death, so there are simply more questions than answers at this point.

Also I really have no idea what you're talking about when you discuss uncontrolled violence here, yes there's a fair amount of violence but it's almost always Thai on Thai, it's very rare that foreigners get assaulted by Thais, and if you want to see what real violence looks like spend some time in Lagos or Manila. Or South Los Angeles.

@spidermike007 You have done it now mate, you have tried to be sensible and try and suggest others step back before knocking Thailand down in a biased way, just wait for the negative thumbs down to arrive from the heaps of farang miseries who seem to dominate this blog on a daily basis, I just laugh at them. 😃

Here's the video. Is it a martial arts hit of some kind? I wouldn't know. He seemed to be knocked out before hitting the ground.

Did her tits fall out or something ? Killed by a 'bitch slap'.

What does the autopsy state cause of death was ? Scared to death maybe, as seems lifeless almost immediately.

What did EMS folks perform on him, and did that cause injury or death.

It was not a "bitch slap". It was a targeted hit against the Arteria carotis interna. Resulting in Carotid sinus reflex (google it). The guy knew what he was doing. This was murder.

Sweden has big problems with this immigrants. Gang crimes from muslim immigrants is common and you have many places witch are no go places, even for police. Would not surprise me he is one of this criminals. A Life does not count for them.

Looks to me, like a 'bitch slap', point of contact, and how head tilts after getting slapped.

If hit on side of neck, head wouldn't move to left as fast, if at all. Think you need to rewatch, frame by frame.

He still seems to be conscious when he first hit the ground - trying to keep his head up and holding the phone. But would hitting his head like that kill him?

well that depends on who you are , who you know, and the quality of ones barrister. Having money can make it relatively easy

I wonder what a 58 year-old - of any nationality - could have done to require a beating severe enough to require their hospitalisation, let a one resulting in their death.
Of the many posts we've seen on here and other forms of media, it seems many or most are a generation younger.

While we often read about intra-/inter-marital assaults and spousal murders in this age group and higher, it seems to me at least uncommon for a tourist in this age group to be involved in such a violent altercation.

It will be interesting to read what details are made public.

There must be a video Phuket is full of CCTV. Where are the videos. I ask only because I am A

Thailand has very little violence aimed at farangs. Mostly farangs causing it. Being 58yo does not make him innocent. He might have been but most farangs who get hurt caused it. Fact of life.

Mr Khaosokman are you from planet Mars? You state,"Thailand has very little violence aimed at farangs". Let me contest that opinion. Farangs are open to financial abuse daily. Taxis is another subject but lets look at bars as an example, where the Thai barmaids and Bar owners charge excess prices and if not paid by the farang after he gets the bull..sht bill is beaten up of which happens on many many occasions.

I posted one of them above. The woman with a lot of tattoos on her back seemed to be trying to calm down the Turk, but it doesn't show what set things off.

Looks like a karate chop to me, and looks like a deliberate strike to a specific part of the neck, you can see the guy with his hand ready in a chop positiion getting his aim, then chop, and it's instant lights out for the Aussie, he collapses. First degree manslaughter.

Sadly all this crap about the Turk using a Martial Arts Hit is what it is crap. He simply slapped him enought to knock him off balence and he struck his head on the ground causing his death from a suspect head trauma. Im not defending the Turk but I dont think he wanted to kill him intentionally. The poor Aussie just suffered a head trauma. You don't need to fall six feet head first to die. You can have a fall standing backwards and strike your head enough to kill you.

Today was Phuket's turn. Tomorrow might be Pattaya's, followed by Bangkok. Musical chairs. All 3 cities regularly make the list of the top 20 visited places in the World. I think Pattaya gets around 15 million visitors a year, foreign and domestic--Phuket and Bangkok even more. With that many visitors, and lots of them bent on going wild while on vacation, you'll get stories like this on a regular basis. Par for the course.

There are a few videos not many. Many would be 20 a year.

I agree bouncers attacking foreigners are a bit like a plane crash, there's not a single one that happens that doesn't hit the news, and we are not made aware of.

The hit itself may have been fatal but he dropped like a lump of coal and when you hit your head that hard on a road surface in just the right place death can very easily be instantaneous. Regardless it's murder and hopefully this absolute creep will spend the rest of his life in prison where I'm sure he'll make a lot of very intimate friends.

Well spotted, as I was wondering why his head didn't hit as hard I'd expected, when watching. Think only a head injury could cause a death, as the rest looked harmless.

Terrible .

This older man was no match for this Swedish middle eastern thug , the older men tried to go back but this muscle thug kept coming towards him ,walking towards him

This is where pepper spray or knowledge of Kali ( knife fighting) is useful for older guys, it's better to be judged by 6 than carried by 6

Police in Phuket have arrested a Swedish man following the death of Australian national Alan Roger Jolliffe, who suffered a fatal head injury after being slapped. The incident occurred in the Patong sub-district on February 25. Jolliffe collapsed and later died at Patong Hospital.

The suspect, 29-year-old Pektas Tugui Tayar, was identified from security footage. Reports suggest Tayar holds a Swedish passport, though some sources claim he is Turkish. Police have not officially clarified his nationality.

Footage showed Jolliffe with his Thai girlfriend when Tayar, on a motorcycle, sounded his horn at the pair. An argument ensued, leading to Tayar allegedly slapping Jolliffe, who fell and hit his head.

Officers located Tayar at a hotel and he admitted to slapping Jolliffe, who collapsed immediately after. Tayar faces charges of physical assault causing death, with penalties ranging from three to 15 years in prison under Section 290 of the Criminal Law.

Looking Ahead, Tayar remains in detention pending legal proceedings. The case underscores concerns about violence following minor conflicts and emphasizes the need for caution in escalating situations, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways

  • A Swedish man was arrested following the death of an Australian in Phuket.

  • The incident was triggered by a horn sound and escalated to physical violence.

  • The suspect is charged with assault causing death and awaits legal proceedings.

Some of us regular visitors already have. I use to think nothing of spending a few months each winter enjoying Phuket and Pattaya by my self but no more. Never alone and extremely careful when visiting Phuket or Pattaya.

The killer will pay his way out within 6 months. I don't think it will get to trial. If it does, it will be far more difficult at that point for the Turkish-Swede to buy his way out. It will never get that far.

There was a similar case of an American who killed an Aussie on Soi 6 in Pattaya and paid his way out.

These cases are pay days for the police.

Sad, very sad for the Aussie and the trauma to his GF.

I hope the Swede enjoys his time in prison. He will have time to try and slap guys around and see how it turns out for him.

Will not happen. Big brown envelope to the BIB. Then on your way and quick exit back to convict land

Yes, and why did they take him to Patong Hospital which isn’t the best choice for such a bad beating.?? He might have had a chance in a better hospital .

The lesson here is, never get in altercations with strangers. Just eat it. Don't finger back, don't yell back, just carry on and ignore it. The same thing happened to a 30 year old in Vancouver a couple years ago. Some immigrant was vaping near him, he piped up and ended up dead. It isn't worth it.

Funny how most posters on this thread are yapping on about tourism doom and then they'll probably walk outside and start fingering ppl that cut them off and yelling at strangers. And then they'll end up like this guy. Completely oblivious to the valuable lesson that this story entails.

2 lives ruined for nothing.

Don't, squabble , with , strangers, over, minor, damn things.

Well said mate, nailed it.

Judging by the many hostile, nasty, disrespectful, aggressive comments I get directed at me from time to time it's clear that some of the foreigners here need to start looking at themselves before blaming Thailand.

Oh well, at least one thing certain, these violent assaults will continue as long as the nasty foreigners keep arriving

Let me add that those tips are extremely important, especially when you are driving in Thailand. Everyone behind the wheel behaves like a psycho killer.
Pedestrian crossings are treated more like crosshairs to aim at rather than a sign telling drivers to give way to pedestrians.
