Police Lieutenant Colonel Chanchai Songwansaksri, deputy inspector at Nong Prue Police Station, received the report of the incident which occurred at 10:35pm and informed Pol. Col. The victim, identified as Mr Wesleigh Cyril Russell, 32, a British national who works as a chef abroad, was at home with his Thai girlfriend, Ms Chandee and a British friend. According to their statements, three suspects dressed in dark hooded clothing concealing their faces forced entry while the group were relaxing inside. The robbers held a knife to the British man’s neck and demanded to know where cash was kept.

The gang forced the victims into the kitchen and stole two mobile phones, an iPhone 16 and an iPhone 14. When Ms Chandee attempted to flee, she was dragged back by the suspects. The men then went upstairs and removed a safe containing more than 2 million baht in cash, which the couple had withdrawn in preparation for purchasing a house.

CCTV footage clearly captured three men wearing long black hooded tops and trousers, with only their eyes visible and described by the victims as possible foreign nationals. The video shows them entering the property, followed by screams, and later leaving calmly carrying the safe. The suspects boarded a black pickup truck parked outside and drove away, crashing through the security barrier at the guard post as they fled.

Daily News reported that Pol. Col. Natthaphon ordered officers to broadcast the suspects’ vehicle description and set up roadblocks. Investigators have been deployed to gather evidence and track down the gang. Police said efforts are under way to apprehend the suspects and bring them to justice as quickly as possible. Authorities are continuing to review CCTV footage and collect witness statements.

Police Find Phones in Pattaya £2m Safe Robbery

image.png

Pictures courtesy of SiamChon

Police investigating the armed robbery of a British chef’s home have recovered two stolen mobile phones discarded by the suspects, as efforts intensify to track down the gang who escaped with more than 2 million baht in cash. The breakthrough came in the early hours of 27 February 2026, hours after the brazen late-night raid. Officers believe the discovery could provide crucial forensic evidence.

The robbery occurred shortly before midnight on 26 February, when three tall, well-built men described as appearing foreign and wearing dark hooded clothing stormed a home. Armed with knives, they forced the British victim to reveal where cash was kept before searching an upstairs bedroom. The suspects removed a safe containing over 2 million baht and fled calmly in a black pickup truck, with CCTV capturing part of the incident.

At 1.35am on 27 February 2026, Pol. Col. Natthaphon Phong Suk Sakun, superintendent of Nong Prue Police Station, led a team of investigators and Pattaya tourist police to trace the suspects’ escape route. Officers located the two stolen mobile phones along the railway road inbound to Sattahip, where the suspects had allegedly thrown them from their vehicle during the getaway. The devices were found approximately 200 metres apart in roadside undergrowth.

Police documented the scene and secured the phones as evidence before forwarding them to the Region 2 Forensic Science Division in Chonburi for examination. Officers will test the devices for latent fingerprints and other trace evidence that may help identify the perpetrators. Investigators are continuing to review CCTV footage and gather additional leads.

SiamChon reported that Pol. Col. Natthaphon has instructed the investigative team to urgently pursue the suspects, describing the crime as audacious and carried out without fear of the law. He has urged members of the public who notice suspicious vehicles or individuals matching the suspects’ description to contact Nong Prue Police Station immediately. He added that he believes there may soon be positive developments in the case. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to bring the hooded gang to justice.

described as appearing foreign

sounds like an obviously British accent in the video to me.

guy has a legit job - chef, but nothing else makes sense. who pays cash for a house with no mortgage? and even if paying cash, you could do a transfer. why would you keep it in a safe? and why would you advertise it to your pals at the bar?

sounds more likely drug-related money.

Masks may hide faces, but accents don’t.

That detail could be the key to narrowing suspects fast.

Police Probe Insider Link in Pattaya 2m Raid

image.png

Pictures courtesy of แจ็ค โพธิ์แดง

Police are investigating a possible insider link in the armed robbery of a British man’s home, after questioning a close acquaintance who left to buy items shortly before the raid. The gang of three masked men escaped with a safe containing more than 2 million baht in cash. Officers are now examining whether anyone close to the victims had prior knowledge of the money.

When police initially arrived at the two-storey townhouse, officers found the victim, Mr Wesleigh Cyril Russell, 32, a British national, along with his 34-year-old Thai girlfriend, Ms Chandee “Dee” Nararat, and two foreign friends, all visibly shaken. The robbery took place in an upstairs bedroom, where the safe had been removed. The safe reportedly contained more than 2 million baht in cash.

Ms Chandee told police that she, her boyfriend, who works as a chef, and three friends were inside the house, while another friend had gone out to buy items. Three men dressed in black with hooded face coverings entered the property and one brandished a knife while demanding to know where money was kept. The suspects ordered everyone to remain still before going upstairs, searching the bedroom and carrying the safe to a black four-door pickup truck before fleeing.

A village security guard said he did not notice the suspects entering but saw the pickup truck leaving. As he ran back to open the barrier, the vehicle accelerated and crashed through it, causing damage before escaping.

Investigators from Chonburi Provincial Police have joined the case. Police found the suspected pickup had driven around the village several times earlier that evening. Officers are now examining whether the person who left to buy items during the incident may have had knowledge of the crime.

Key Takeaways

• Police are investigating whether someone close to the victims had prior knowledge of the cash kept in the safe.

Ok, wow.

I would have thought in this day and age large transactions would be done digitally.

Amateurs, which further points towards inside job spur of moment crime of opportunity. Phones likely ditched out of fear of tracking software or unusable due to face recognition/passcode software. Cops likely suspect girlfriend, as do I.

Remember kids, cash is king!

Don't fool around with other methods of payment.

So who was the girlfriend showing the cash off too when he was away working seemingly as a chef ? 🤔

I'm not silly enough to keep my 35 million baht in a safe. Stupid thing to do. I keep them in a plastic bag under my bed.

Ok, keeping 2M baht in your home, is like putting a target on yourself. Today you can buy a house via digital transfers.

Or a cashier cheque which is what I thought the norm was before all this digital malarkey.

I wonder where the house to be bought was as 2 million wouldn't buy much in Pattaya as a rule........

Why not? After all, we don't live in Europe. I recently bought a car worth 4 million in cash here, but the dealer refused to accept it, so I had to deposit it into a bank account together with an employee.

Maybe a house up in Nakorn Nowhere for the Husband.

The 2 mill could have been part of payment with the remaining balance paid online or check. If you're buying a house where perhaps there's a gambling debt to be paid, having cash makes sense.

Yes, why fool around with other methods of payment when you could be visited one evening by Three hooded men armed with knives

If a house seller has owned a house less than 5 years or have had official adress in the house less than 1 year, there will be a 3.3% specific business tax to be paid of the appraised price or the sales price whichever is higher. If the sales price is higher than the appraised price, it's very common that a house on paper is sold at the appraised price and seller requires the difference to be paid in cash. In this particular case, a 2 million Baht cash payment could potentially save the seller 66,000 Baht in tax payment.

But, but, but...

I like crypto. No need to worry there. No crime ever involves crypto.

My thought as well- but the whole story about the robbery involving a possible insider just does not add up- something very dubious is going on here- I do not think it was simply 3 thieves striking randomly and happened upon a house with 2 million baht in cash therein!
