Volvo Recalls 56,000 Cars Over Faulty Airbags, Engine Problems

TOCKHOLM : The Swedish automaker Volvo, a subsidiary of Ford Motor Company, said on Thursday it had recalled a total of 56,000 cars worldwide due to two separate problems linked to airbags and engines.

Some 18,000 Volvo V70 and XC70 models from 2008 would be recalled due to faulty airbags, as well as 38,000 2006 diesel models sold across Europe due to problems with the cars' fuel injector clamps, Volvo spokeswoman Maria Bohlin told AFP.

Concerning the airbags, "there is a software problem in the side impact airbag system ... We have discovered that in the cases of collisions with small objects, like a pole, they are not triggered as quickly as expected," she explained.

That recall concerned mainly Britain, the United States, Germany, Italy and Sweden, Bohlin said.

In the second recall, which affected Volvo S60, V70, XC70 and XC90 models from 2006, faulty fuel injector clamps could lead to diesel leaks.

"In the worst case scenario, the diesel can leak onto the warm engine and cause smoke or even a fire," Bohlin said.

Recall letters have been sent to the owners of all of the vehicles potentially affected, which would be repaired free of charge, she added. - AFP

How about those Volvo owner in Thailand, are their car affected? If memory serve me right, I never heard of well known brand car dealers recalling defect car for replacement.
