Yes, I never had a rent increase in about 8 years but people don't believe me I have a 2-bedroom unit just a few KM outside the city

I think you missed my point.

You are saying that the price for two weeks is almost four times the price for one week.

Some points I  can share some details , perhaps you know these items already:

- You must be physically in Australia to get a CRN (Centrelink Reference Number), unless you already have one.

- You must be physically in Australia the day you lodge your application for the OAP (Note: You can lodge your OAP application at a C'Link office (that's what I did and they were very thorough, helpful and polite. Or you can lodge your OPA application by email or by post, C.Link will check the always live immigration records to establish your location at the date / time you lodge the application).

- At same CLink visit you can prove your identity: passport, birth certificate, Thai plastic drivers license with embedded photo and your full name in English, Plus one other plastic ID card with photo embedded.

- I was very lucky, my OAP was approved 16 days after I lodged the OAP application at the local C'Link office.

There's a toll free tel number from Thailand to C'Link in Australia. 0018006114136 or could be 0018006114136.

I've used this number many times, always answered quickly, good listeners, clear focused answers every time. They don't bite but as always don't reveal more personal info than needed.

Note that all calls to C'link are recorded and if needed they do go back to earlier calls if needed.

Can I suggest, make a list of questions and give them a call to get clear answers direct from C.Link

Good luck.

Is there a good time to call? I've tried this same number many times and given up after 20 minutes or so.

I can't answer your question.

I've called several time when I've realized I needed an answer, always answered quickly an always received clear answer.

Perhaps you should try again.

Cut and paste from Centrelink website follows:

"To call Centrelink from Thailand, you can use the international free call number 001 800 611 4136 or dial +61 3 6222 3455 (Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm Australian Eastern Standard Time). "

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

  • International Free Call Number: 001 800 611 4136
  • Alternative Number: +61 3 6222 3455
  •
  •
  • I've used the free call number above ( 001 800 611 4136) several times, always answered quickly.
  •
  • I seem to remember I changed the 001 to 009 to get out of Thailand.

The 001 number gets through to C'link but I haven't had any luck getting anyone to answer - yet.

It's the same number just 009 instead of 001.

I recently called Centrelink International from within Australia 4 times over a month, mid January to mid February '25. The wait time was never less than 40 minutes, the longest 55 minutes.

Once the calls were answered the person on the line, on every occasion was extremely helpful and answered all my questions.

Very happy with their service.

Maybe calling from outside Australia you may need to take into account the current wait times as i did.

Hope this is of some help as to the current wait times

Calling Centrelink around 8am Tasmanian time (4-5am Bangkok time) usually results in an immediate connection. While wait times increase later in the day, they rarely surpass 30 minutes. Be aware that you may be connected to an agent in another state during peak Tasmanian call volume, potentially leading to less helpful service.

Yes, 3:04 am Sundays.

I've called them from Thailand on the toll free number several times. I called at the time I realized I needed to clarify something.

Call always answered in less than a minute. Always good listener, clear answer, always polite. They don't bite.

Give it a try but don't call with a negative attitude.

Dutton wants to take your pension away if you are outside Australia for more than 4 weeks.

Scroll down to "Overseas eligibility for social services payments – reduce to four weeks."

Taxing your pension at non resident tax rates pales into insignificance when compared to cutting your pension off completely after 4 weeks outside of Australia.

Dutton or no Dutton, it shows the Liberals have formed a policy on it.

Whilst Liberal might not get in this election, your pension may only be safe for the next 4 years.  It shows Liberal's future intention.

So you think stopping overseas pensions after 4 weeks will save less than $20M a year? Go back to school scaremonger! They are talking about the current scheme of 6 weeks being reduced to 4 weeks for reducing some payments.

Another brain fart from KH.

Have a great day

Any comment on the Liberal's policy?  Perhaps you think it will only apply to guys like Paul Hogan.  :cheesy:
