"Herbie live at Drury Lane" is a fave :o

How vulgar was that?

Most blatant thing was when they changed the rules at Bathurst, made it a Ford v Holden battle.

They could not handle "Godzillas"....... sheeeesh.

NOT GOOD SPORTS at all.

Bathurst started out as Holden vs Ford, but then the "Godzillas" and the likes entered the field.

We just changed the rules back to the good old days of V8 Supercars or Holden and Ford, even though previously they were not all V8 but none the less it is just more relevant to Australians than watching a turbo charged Nissan racing around the track.

Whether you drove a Ford (surfer dude) or a Holden (Bogan) said a lot about who you are...

I actually miss the Skylines etc, it was a much more exciting race to watch. Now its like watching 2 football teams playing each other over and over again each week. They need new cars. The Skyline GTR R32 is still a beast on the road today and beats 95% of the new V8's and its nearly a 20 year old car.

The new R35 Stock standard would beat the V8 supercars without any mods and could still have all the seats in there with aircon.

We had just brought home a new puppy.

Sitting around in lounge discussing what to call it.

8 y/o grand rugrat was watching a movie, piped up, "Call him HERBIE, g/dad".

No clues as to the movie, but name stuck.

Strange, but the dog's nature was so like the carm he was great.

Lived 17 years, miss him heaps.

R.I.P HERBIE

Bathurst started out as the Armstrong 500 originally run at Phillip Island before it moved to Mt.Panorama in 1963 (still as the Armstrong 500).

1963 &64 were won by Mk.1 Cortina GT,s. Those were the good old days of Norm Beechey and his big Chevvy,Bob Jane and his Jaguar. Harry Firth and all those greats.

Deadly snake bites man's penis

Thursday, May 29, 2008

The Cairns Post

A ROADSIDE toilet stop ended in pain, embarrassment and almost death for a tourist when a highly venomous snake bit the end of his penis.

The deadly brown snake slithered between his legs and lunged at his manhood as he crouched on a roadside near Laura, 300km northwest of Cairns, about a month ago.

Details of the incident only came to light yesterday after they were confirmed by a paramedic.

"It certainly had a swipe at him," an ambulance spokesman said yesterday.

"But it didn’t envenomate him.

"As it came through it must have got a bit of a shock."

The snake beat a hasty retreat, leaving its victim with a scratch, vomiting and abdomen pain.

Emergency workers raced to the scene to treat the man.

The wound was wrapped in plastic in case poison had penetrated the skin but medical staff gave the man the all-clear after conducting tests.

He was taken to Cooktown Hospital where he spent a night recovering.

The ambulance spokesman described him as "lucky", given his near encounter with one of Australia’s most poisonous snakes.

"I think he was a bit shocked and embarrassed," he said.

So what are we saying here ......

Aussies squat to take a leak? Stand up like a man!

"The snake did not envenomate him" - but he vomited and had a pain in his arse belly.

And he's a tourist - from Oz or from elsewhere? (Can't imagine any sane tourist 300km North of Cairns)

And brown snakes give cheap bj's

Did you forget the Bugatti Veyron ===407km/h

maybe he meant one that's affordable.

Gotta agree with you TheDon. Had a Nissan 200SX (poor man's Skyline). What a fun car to drive.....and loads more style than that WRX crap. Didn't I used to love pissing off those V8s....talk about slow.

I was at Philip Is for the first Armstrong 500.

Was won by a Vuaxhall Cresta, beating Bob Jane in a Mercedes.

All cars were basic, only modification allowed was the removal of silencers, for sound effects.

Imagine NO engine noise, a quiet race......sheeeeesh

Neva missed it.

Remember the old saying when the cars were near stock off the production line models.

"race em on Sundays sell em on Mondays"

Or the odd ball sports sedans like Brocky,s Holden powered Austin A30 or the Algie brothers twin engine Morris Mini Cooper S even my old FX powered Peugeot 203.

They were the good days.

Way back, in NZ, there was an unbeatable hill climb car, 5.5 litre Lycoming Special (so-named because it was built around an aircraft engine).

It was used for racing too.

All road legal, drive to the event and home again.

Those were the days orrite, lotsa fun, more than the processions called racing nowadays.

I used to race production bikes starting off in the RD250 class then moved up to the RD350. All the bikes were stock except for changing the springs (front and rear), exhaust and brake pads. Most of us used the bike as road transport and rode them out to the race track for the day. Strapped on a number and hoped we didn't drop it and have to trailer the bike home. Was a lot of fun and made good entertainment for people watching. The bikes were pretty quick and made for close racing. Went onto the 750cc and unlimited production - rode both the 750 and 1000cc Suzuki Katana. Back then we rode at Bathurst for the Australian Production series.

That reminds me of going to meets at Bachus Marsh in Victoria.

Nothing professional, just tow car and trailer with gear.

Bikes usually ridden to and from events.

Thems were the days when Jap bikes were just appearing on the scene, lotsa BSAs, AJC, Nortons, Ariel square 4s (Usually ex Vic cop bikes), Triumphs, BMW, etc, mainly English bikes.

I remember Honda built straight-4 engines as small as a 125 cc the 125/4. it screamed, 11,000 revs.

Pistons like sewing thimbles.

At that time I rode a Honda dream 305, 9,000 plus revs, first bike with trafficators, I believe.

Cops pulled me up saying they were too close together, use hand signals

The revs on those early Hondas were amazing, hard to believe at the time.

Then there was Fishermans bend airstrip racing............

Gimme the old days of motor sports, heaps more fun.

I once had a Honda 175 twin. A dull plodder that would go forever. Crashed it once a month and became an expert in repairing it. The local scrapyard owner nick-named me 'front forks'. I once 2 sets at the same time which the guy thought was hilarious! :o

Around the Nurburgring the

GTR R35 does 7:38

Veyron does 7:40

GTR costs $70k USD

Veyron costs 1 million plus USD

GTR has boot space like a real car

Veyron has basically nothing.

It is funny in a 'I feel guilty for finding it funny' sort of way! :D

True, Suegha :o but it sounds like one of those 'real-life' London Sun stories .... not too many facts to be had. Meanwhile, in the rest of Australia - the constabulary waits outside major festivals and popular music venues raiding all sorts of suspicious vehicles from Kombi vans to Ferraris. :D

The RD350 was an amazing bike - relatively simple to work on as a home mechanic but had a fantastic power to weight ratio. I know a guy in Australia who has three in first hand condition sitting in his garage. He rides one in the veteran class races.

CB

Yes, the RD350 was insane! Too many people died riding them. It came to the stage where you couldn't insure them in Ireland. Is that good or bad?!?

The guy I now work for comes from there. Grew up with the TT. I only went there once and had a great time. I love watching bike racing but the TT is something very special and unique. In reality to start a similar race with similar road conditions would now be banned under racing rules as too dangerous.

CB

And so it should be too! We don't want to have any excitment or danger in our lives. Let's just lead our lives cosetted and wrapped in cotton wool 'til we grow old and die!

Dull!!!

ps a comedian on the radio earlier said we (in the UK) have a ministry for removing everything from life we enjoy. I thought it funny and a little too true...

The Macao GP is still on.....what can be more challenging...especially what motorcycles are concerned!

I've been there a couple of years back and at the Oriental's hotel bar I got involved in a chat with two of the engineers...background: One motorcycle driver died that day in an accident....their comment was...if you race motorcycles you must be crazy. If you do that in Macao you must be really crazy!

The Formula 3 race was red flagged and the surviving car was declared the winner.....

Why worry about some organisation being in control.

Start yer own.

Make your own rules to suit.

As I mentioned in an earlier post.

Motor racing, be it bikes or cars, has now become just a boring procession.

WRC has me now, all speed and skills,

YAAAAAAS

Got to agree with Raro.......It's certainly not dull in Macau ( and I worked for best part of a year in the IOM, lived in Derby Square behind the bowling green, great place fantastic beer..........but Macau....... ).

And if you think Walk-In-Street is wild, down town Maccers on race weekend is.......well it's just........... is.

Lord Mayor of Melbourne was having real wobblies on telly tonite...........

Auckland voted by a mayoral vote to be 5th best city to live in.

"How can Auckland be a better city to live in, than Melbourne?"

Typical Australian putting the better country down as usual.

Melbourne would be my favourite for great city, but NOWAY GREAT for living in.

The weather defeats it, 4 seasons in one day.

In winter, freaking cold, freezing southerly winds, no hose allowed to wash muddy car..

In summer, dry, no decent water supply for years, temps over 40 deg regularly.

HOSES HAVE BEEN BANNED FOR YEARS.

I lived there 9 years, enuff, still go back a lot, just a visit.

Part of story.

10 June 2008: Zurich, Vienna and Geneva are the best cities in the world as far as quality of live is concerned, says Mercer Consulting in a survey published in June 2008. Vancouver (Canada) and Auckland (New Zealand) are placed fourth and fifth respectively, followed by three German cities: Düsseldorf, Munich and Frankfurt. Tokyo, London and Madrid are all outside the top 25. Overall, Baghdad is, not surprisingly, the lowest ranking city in the survey

Auckland is temperate, never really cold, not seen a frost in 20 years where I live.

So many great places and things to do within a couple of hours drive.

You can deep sea fish, play a round of golf, go mountain skiing and finish in a hot spring thermal pool all within a normal day.

Beat that Melbourne.

Addy for full story, http://www.citymayors.com/features/quality_survey.html

Wellington was 12th.

Melbourne came in at 17

Sydney.......... 19

Perth............. 21

Brisbane......... 34

How well did Liverpool. or god forbid, Manchester do?
