W.i. Tour The World's Brothels

Featured Replies

TWO ladies from the Women's Institute swapped traditional jam-making – for a tour of the world's brothels. Jean Johnson, 62, and Shirley Landells, 73, visited Holland, the US and New Zealand in their search for the perfect brothel.

They started a campaign to legalise brothels after the murder of five prostitutes in Ipswich in 2006 by Suffolk Strangler Steve Wright.

And the pair, from Hampshire W.I., crowned the Purely Blue Brothel in Auckland, New Zealand, as the world's No1.

Jean said it was "lovely, just like a hotel".

They deemed as unsuitable for the UK the system in Amsterdam, where hookers sit in windows.

They also opposed the Bunny Ranch in Nevada, US, where girls pay tax and get health checks but line up to be chosen for sex.

Shirley said: "Some people say prostitution shouldn't happen, but it does.

"Providing somewhere for it would help to make the girls safer."

Jean added: "Everybody looks on these girls as being the lowest stratum of society – and that's not true."

The women, whose tour is featured in a Channel 4 show on Sunday, have presented a petition to Downing Street calling for brothels to be legalised.

God on them. The industry is going to exist regardless of laws.

Each country, as they pointed out, should probably have slightly different ways of providing the industry (ie: windows in one country, "hotels"in another, etc...) but certainly the girls and the punters alike would be safer health and crime wise with some form of social acceptance.

As far as I'm aware, a visit to a brothel is a right rite of pasage for at least the male half of the population.

edit: Smelly P1sstake

Yeah, legalise it and control it for the good of the punter and puntee!

Most "goodies" tastes better when they're a little illegal :o

Making prostitution illegal makes it too easy for serial killers and other sickos to operate.

Agree with this, but at least if you make legal they have more protection

Guys the problem with this thread is that it is discussing prostitution which is against the rules of Thai Visa. Consequently before this turns into a discussion of the merits and otherwise of prostitution I am closing it.
