Politics And Hosting 'the Olympics'...

Featured Replies

Tibet is one facet, others might be political & religious freedoms or internal human rights issues.

Although the attached video is dated from 2005, I see that there are reports of China's support of this practice persists. I'm not particually anti-fur, just the barbaric way those animals are being treated.

Other Olympic years and the issues of the day, this problem is as old as the games themselves.

The Olympic Games were created by Baron Pierre de Coubertin for two reasons: (Source)

1) A way for the countries of the globe to become more connected.

2) It was a reason for men to become more "vigoureux" or vigorous.

Are theses 'targets' met each 4 years? Or is it about hotel rooms and dining out, tourist figures?

Has The Olympics just become a business project these days? To rebuild at great cost parts of old cities, allowing local political bosses to place kick-back construction contracts and (empty) promises of wealth to the local population while furthering their personal political targets.

The sport is a small part of the event, it is the political and financial elements that drive the modern Olympics.
