Phuket city police kept a 14 year old boy in custody after he allegedly shot and injured a police officer. He also tried to steal a car from a foreign tourist. His bag had a .22 pistol and 31 bullets plus over 5,000 baht cash was also confiscated. The teenager, who is from the Northeastern province of Ubol Ratchathani, told police that he has been working as a construction worker in Phuket. On Monday he stole a gold necklace from a house he is working on and sold it off and earned 13,000 baht then spent money on clothing in the city. When getting near Bangniew Shrine near Saphan Hin, he saw a tourist was about to get in a car. The teenage boy then decided to use a gun to force the British man out of his car hoping to steal the car and drive up to Bangkok, his home town. He however failed to get the key and a member of the public, who saw the incident, notified police while he attempted to flee the scene. A police officer then followed him, and he fired 3 shots at police before ending up being arrested near a clock tower, 500 metres away from the scene of the crime. The boy faces many charges including thieving, assaulting an officer and murder attempt plus drug abuse. The injured police officer is now in a stable condition.
