Pattaya, August 4,[PDN]: A German man was found dead in a house in central Pattaya. Police, have not specified whether or not it was suicide or foul play. The house was found to have been cleared of all it’s contents.

On 3rd of August 2009 at 10.00 pm, Banglamung Police Lieutenant Natthapol Akareun, was notified that a foeiegn man had been found dead at 535/13 Garden Village, Soi 12 Pattaya – Naklua, Moo. 5, Nongprue. He and his team went to the address to find the house had been ransacked.

The incident took place at a bungalow which was surrounded by a strong fence for security purposes. Police found the rooms in the house to be empty of it’s contents and left in a messy condition. It appeared that the house had been searched before the contents removed. A long scratch had been made on the floor presumably from where the safety deposit box had been dragged. Screwdrivers and a few other tools were found at the scene.

In the bathroom, police found a hole in the ceiling approximately 70x70 cm. When police climbed up to search the area, they found a male foreigner hanging from the roof beam, wearing a gray striped shirt, black jeans with a blue towel on his shoulder. He was later identified as Mr. Peter Gittel, (55). Police estimated he had been dead about 4 hours.

Police questioned Mrs. Prayoon Gerdnok, [49] form Nakhon Ratchasima, a housemaid from the Tooty Fruity beer bar in Soi 13, Pattaya- Naklua Road, who found the body of the man. She said Mr. Gittel had lived in Pattaya for more than 30 years. He had a business in sub leasing bars. The shop owner, her boss gave her the rent money to pay Mr. Gittel as usual. When she arrived and rang the alarm on the gate, there was no answer. She then called her boss Mrs. Lumyai Lanok (40) and Miss Saimai Pongprai (36) the owner of the bar next door to accompany her to in order to gain access.

When they tried the gate they found it to be unlocked and on entering the premises they were shocked to see the state of the rooms so called the police.

Pol. Col. Somneuk Jungate, told media that a witness, who lived nearby, (name withheld), said that in the evening, they had seen the Cambodian housemaid (25-35) of Mr. Gittel, who had just started working for him and her two friends, a man and woman, dragging a safety deposit box and loading it onto a blue pickup truck.

Police presume, Mr. Gittel may have commited suicide due to his congenital disease, and when his housemaid found him, she may have tried to open his safety deposit box and failing this, may have called for help in taking it away along with the rest of the house contents.

However, Police have not ruled out foul play. They have sent Mr Gittels body for autopsy and are awaiting the results of his death. Fingerprints collected from around the house have been kept as part of the evidence and they will be investigating further into the case of the missing safe and contents.

That's so sad, but if someone really has to go, then try to take the cause of your pain with you, sell your life dearly! RIP

This is quite a bad one. Let's hope that that his family demand a full investigation.

It sounds to be like a burglary and robbery and a murder, with the German strung up later to make it look like a suicide.

But with a proper body autopsy and an examination of the scene of crime the truth can be known.

Let me see if I got the timeline straight...

A witness saw the Cambodian housemaid and two of her friends moving the safety deposit box, the night before. The bar lady found him the next day, went to get her bosses, returned, notified the police, they came. Upon examination the police discovered he had been dead about 4 hours.

Sounds like he killed himself for health reasons alright. The theft or "removal" of the safety deposit box the night before probably had nothing to do with it; just a coincidence. I wonder if the "witness" happened to notice anyone removing the rest of the household items; I do believe that they said the house was empty....

RIP!

Weird though, who would break a hole in the ceiling of the bathroom, to hang himself from a roof beam...?

- isn't it called the "Tutti Frutti" Bar ? -

Lets hope there was bupkis in the safe. I have a safe and sometimes I think it is safer to not have one. Thieves imagine there are millions of baht when they see a safe. I have one to keep DOCUMENTS that are worthless to anyone but myself. Yes occasionally there is cash in there, but no more than 10K baht. I guess some people would kill for 100 baht ... oh well.

Pattaya, August 5 [PATTAYA ONE NEWS] : On Tuesday we reported on the suspected suicide of a German house owner, Mr. Peter Gittel from Germany. There was a twist to the story as a safe thought to contain 1 Million Baht in cash had been stolen hours before the body of Mr. Gittel had been discovered. Police Lieutenant Colonel Pramot, the Deputy Chief of Banglamung Police has been assigned to the case and confirmed late on Tuesday Night that all the evidence at the scene pointed to a suicide although murder has not been discounted, but is thought unlikely. Pictures of the missing safe were shown to us and the officer revealed that an investigation was ongoing into three people who were seen removing the safe on Sunday Evening but further details have to remain secret to avoid compromising the investigation.

Pattaya, August 7,[PDN]: An empty safety deposit box belonging to a dead German which had been opened in an amateurish way was found left in the bush. Two bank books and some documents left in the safe may give valuable clues to enable the police to track down the thieves and close the German case.

PDN reported that on the 3 August 2009 a German man, Mr. Peter Gittel, had been found dead in a house in Central Pattaya. Police have not specified whether it was suicide or if foul play is suspected. The house was found to have been cleared of all its contents. My condolences to all who are negatively affected by this.

Anyone know what his congenital disease was?
