Air Asia Bangkok To Perth

Recommended Posts

I booked air asia to Perth via KL only to find out later that I had to collect my luggage in KL and then go thru immigration and customs and back thru immigration and customs to check into the Perth sector. Same procedure on way home. I am nearly 80 and cannot carry anything nor can I stand for long. I had hoped to check my baggage straight thru both ways. I cannot conceive collecting my luggage and hauling it thru customs and immigration twice both ways. I can't get any information from Air Asia.

Anyone had any experience transiting KL to Australia??

That sounds like a pain in the ass but it shouldn't be so bad really, all you will really need to do is load your bags onto one of those 'luggage trolly' things and push it through customs then proceed directly to the check in desk for the next leg of your flight.

Air Asia do this for their own convenience, when you travel to the US you are forced by law to do this even if your onward flight is with the same airline, even if it's an international flight.

AirAsia is strictly a point-to-point carrier as are most low-cost airlines. They lack the mechanism to through check bags to an onwards destination, they also lack the mechanism by which they could issue a boarding pass for your flight from KL to Perth while you are in Bangkok.

Regret it is so either travel ight post ahead or perhaps better airline

Ovenman is broadly correct

A happy exception is Air berlin

I recently checked bags hrough from Paris and sent a happy day in Dusseldorf with merely laptop case to carry

Bon voyage

Did the same trip last month with Air Asia...(Bangkok - K.L. - Perth). Do not expect any favors from them and make sure your baggage weight is not over 15 kilos. They will charge you $8 a kilo over 15 kilos... As mentioned they are a point to point carrier which means you do have to collect your bags at K.L. and then proceed again through immigration and customs. It really is no big deal (even at 80) and you do not have far to travel. Remember that you also need to pay for food and movies on board if required.

I will not fly cheapo again. I will be happy to pay the extra and use Singapore Airlines . . .

also looking at going to Perth next year.,

Not sure, but

Doing a search on Google NOT each airline web site, it came time and time again that BKK - KUL - Perth Return with Air Asia took 18+ hours.?

but for 200 baht more but only 15 hours was BKK - Bali - Perth return on Air Asia ??

Even cheaper than Asia Air is Tiger Air ?

By far the best time and only 2,000 baht more was Royal Brunei Air, booking straight through with only 1.5 hr wait in BWN + in flight meals and drinks, movies...

Not sure about Malaysian Air or Singapore Air both have to stop and are more of less the same price as Thai Air flying non stop

I understand that you can require Special Assistance with Air Asia as well. You need to contact them at least 48hrs before. Now, looking at the prices Thai is around 12000 THB more expensive than Air Asia. Yes, it is a huge saving but I am not sure if it is worthwhile to go trough all this hassle, especially then when you are a Senior or when travelling with children. With TG you check in here in BKK, leave your bags, do 1 x single immigration process and head to the gate. Plus you get something to eat and to drink (free) and the TG Ladies are pretty friendly (most of the time).

Sure, this is everyones choice and everyones budget, but I find myself so many times contemplating if I should use LCC or Regular and most of the times I am sitting on TG/SQ. 2 weeks ago I had to go to SIN and booked TG @ 6800 THB - Air Asia was already up to 9100 THB as I only booked my flight on short notice - less than 24hrs before.

My 2 cents ...

Went with Air Asia from Bangkok to China and back via KL both ways and arriving in KL and getting out again was no hassle.

There's luggage trolleys around at arrivals that you can put your bag on and the departures hall is only 50m away.

The food is good at the KL airport and there's a money changer there too.

:D ..had a simialr experience and thon-line booking is known to get manipulated to such an extent that you end up paying for a higher cost flight and your private data gets compromised :D .

just had a bad experience earlier this month with a repeated one for a pre-booked flight for early noivember with no reply whatsoever even though they claim they will rectify the problem. still waiting for their reply ..... :D
