Google Language And Language Bar Questions

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Firstly, how do I tell Google that when I am in the middle east or in Thailand I still want the search results to be in English and not in Arabic/Thai?

Secondly, I have Win 7 installed and I am not able to find the language bar and pin it to the taskbar (?) as I did with XP. How do I do that?

Thanks!

Easy!

For the first question:

  • Make sure you have cookies enabled for google.com and the local Google site (ie: google.co.th for Thailand).
  • Go to Google web page in the top right corner click on 'Search settings'.
  • Select your preferences
  • Click on 'Save preferences'.

The preferences will stay in effect till you change them or delete the cookies.

For the second question:

  • Select Start > Control Panel > Region and Language.
  • Under the 'Keyboards and Language' tab, click the 'Change keyboards...' button.
  • Under the 'Language Bar' tab, select your language bar option.
  • Click 'Apply' and 'Ok'

From W7 Ultimate Help:-

To show the Language bar

Right-click the taskbar, point to Toolbars, and then click Language bar.

Once the Language bar is displayed, you can right-click it to display options for changing its settings, which include docking it on the taskbar or displaying it vertically instead of horizontally.

Note

If the Language bar isn't listed in the Toolbars menu, you don't have multiple input languages installed on your computer. You need to add additional languages using Region and Language in Control Panel. For more information, see Add or change an input language.

You do not have to make that your homepage to work. All you need to do is have cookies enabled and go to www.google.com/ncr

Once you do that a cookie will keep you going there.

Just remember "No Country Redirect" for the next time it happen/cookies removed.
