German man found dead in Phuket home

PATONG: A German man passed away at his rented home in Patong over the weekend.

Kathu police Pol Maj Jongserm Preecha identified the deceased as Josef Stefan Distler, age 68.

The body of the late Mr Distler was discovered at 9pm Sunday by the owner of the Ban Dok Din rental homes on Soi Veerakit, off Nanai Road.

The deceased was found lying on the bed.

Bloodstains were found on the mattress and pillow, but police found no signs of struggle or foul play in the room.

They estimated the time of passing at about six hours before the discovery of the body.

Mr Distler’s remains were sent to Vachira Phuket Hosptial for examination.

The case officer said he thought the cause of Mr Distler’s death was likely respiratory disease related to his advancing age.

The owner of the home said Mr Distler had lived there for five or six years.

He described him as a quiet man who seldom went out.

sad he was alone in his advancing years.my condolences rip

Condolences to his family. V sad.

But, if he was alone, why did someone enter his room a few hours after his death? And why was there blood on the pillow and mattress.

Obviously there could be an innocent explanation, but a few questions need to be asked.

Yes, judged by the way he was discribed, it is rather odd that his body was discovered so soon after his demise, unless of course his rental payment was due on that very day (co-incidence) as to the blood stains on the bed, they could simply have been the result of nose-bleeding which happends to some people, nevertheless the police should look around a bit.

My condolences to the deceased and family, however as for being sad that "he was alone in his advancing years", why?

Many folk (me included) do not mind this in the least, and are happy at being able to be free to do what they want. Being alone for many is a preferred state and there would be a fair amount who come here to do just that, striking up friendships when/if it pleases them.

My hope is that he died "contented" with what he had done with his life.

Even if his rent was due, its inconceivable that the landlord would enter his house so quickly to demand payment...... It just doesn't happen.

Is there any further news on this? Have the family been found? Have any questions been asked?

It would be nice to think this was a v old man that lived here, whilst shunning the attention of any women, and died quietly in his sleep - but it seems unlikely.
