Following from the above, although this was straight from the mouth of the guy (English) behind me in the queue at Heathrow. "Do you think they'll let us in".

I wish. There's 3 churches within a 5 minute walk of my front door. Parking is a nightmare on Sunday mornings.

Can't you just walk to church?

It's easy to blame religion and religion is no doubt the excuse, but we live in a world where there is dwindling resources for more people.

Since the dawn of man we have exercised violence on other groups.

Patriotism is probably just as big a cause of problem as religion. In a way patriotism is a kind of religion.

Even if there were no religion, mankind would fine a reason to fight. Religion might possibly do more good than evil, but I am not sure about that.

So religion is bad because of the parking on a Sunday morning?

...As is global warming, Apple iPhones and any other number of present and past vogues of the day.

This is real ThaiVisa stuff! Generalisations so vague that they mean very little... and even then you want to hedge your bets.

Again, Naam, the winner is Endure... three churches within five minutes of his door, with such good congregations that parking is a nightmare! You should be so lucky!

i think a nearby mosque would make Endure completely happy. think of melodic churchbells complimenting the muezzin's prayer calls only interrupted sometimes by subtle explosions when a Shia blows up a few dozen Sunnis... or vice versa. then add the sirens of ambulances and police cars.

Not only that but I live 50 yards from a school so I'm not too keen on education either.

I'm surprised that you choose to live in such a den of iniquity

As opposed to religion is the root of all evil. That is real Thai Visa stuff.

Unlikely: church bells tend to be during the day, whereas mosque loud speakers are going at it @ 4am in the morning :)

Perhaps sleep deprivation and loud speakers going off @ 4am are factors in British patriotism. I mean if you lived near a mosque somewhere in South East Asia, wouldn't you want to emmigrate to a country like the UK with laws on noise pollution too. Peace at 4am would be a god-send (or should I say allah-send)? No doubt sleep deprivation is one of the factors that pushes the extremists over the edge... In fact when we had a our first baby and the local mosque was going at it @ 4am I felt like a little extreme action myself on occasion :)

Iniquity I can handle. It's the devout and the young that cause me grief.

Thaksin is the root of all evil is real TVF stuff. :D

Brehvik, in the usual dramatic tones used here was not a 'nutter', certainly not a Christian fanatic, but someone suffering from mental disease, quite possibly 'delusional paranoid schizophrenia'.

A little different from being a plain and simple 'nutter'.

Nor was he a British Muslim, so I don't know what he's doing here!

But the boundary between 'nutter' and just plain mad is not hard and fast; what was David Koresh of Waco, Texas, or the Rev. (!) Jones of Jonestown, Guyana? At the mad extreme of nutterism.
