Picked up the new seat today, 1500baht and it looks really great. I will do a ride tomorrow and let you know about the comfort of the modifications.

Holy Moly !!! blink.png

I had the hump taken off (just held on with two nuts and bolts) new heavy duty foam carve to rough shape and vinyl for 200 baht.... at a local foam shop on Samui...

I went back a few days later and had the foam slightly re-carved... they used same vinyl and charged another 50 baht... ohmy.png still more comfortable and looks good!

Can't see that the PCX 150 is much different than the 125 model, I've not had a chance yet to look at one closely.... but there are a few running around Samui ....... not sure of cost of 150 on Samui yet!

I have driven them both... They are almost identical except for the 150cc have:

  • The LCD display on the dashboard is blue instead of orange now.
  • The gas tank lid is totally redesigned and it has at metal frame now and it's opens towards the driver.
  • 4kg heavier and the frame feels sturdier.
  • Smaller gas tank, 5.9 vs 6.1 liter.
  • The extra 28cc feels when you accelerates.
  • Chromed and larger handlebar ends.
  • Air filter box is redesigned and bigger and have an ESP sticker on it
  • The "stop-idling" lamp is redesign and have an "A" symbol with a half round arrow symbol around it.
  • The front fender have a "CombiBrake" sticker now.
  • And i have read something about redesign of the parking stands.. But i have not noticed any differences, but i have not examined it so carefully either.

Added a few comments.... hope that OK!

Thanks TramsRepus! Best run down of differences I've read here !

I have driven them both... They are almost identical except for the 150cc have:

  • The LCD display on the dashboard is blue instead of orange now. Wow!
  • The gas tank lid is totally redesigned and it has at metal frame now and it's opens towards the driver. Hope it opens easier now, tends to be hard to open sometimes on 125.
  • 4kg heavier and the frame feels sturdier. Sturdy is good!
  • Smaller gas tank, 5.9 vs 6.1 liter. Not so good! especially on long runs where gas stations are few and far between... I took my 125 down 3000 kms through Malaysia last summer.... a few times got a flashing "low fuel" .... always did just make it on fumes a couple of times, I think! smile.pngIt was after that trip I knew the seat needed to be modified!

  • The extra 28cc feels when you accelerates. That's OK except perhaps on sand covered roads? !
  • Chromed and larger handlebar ends. better grip???? !!!

  • Air filter box is redesigned and bigger and have an ESP sticker on it That's probably good.... wonder how many people get their air-filter checked or changed ? I noticed Honda dealer does it as part of regular maintenance...
  • The "stop-idling" lamp is redesign and have an "A" symbol with a half round arrow symbol around it. Not sure why they have that idle button, I just let mine die and engines starts when needed... I like that!
  • The front fender have a "CombiBrake" sticker now. That's helpful! biggrin.png
  • And i have read something about redesign of the parking stands.. But i have not noticed any differences, but i have not examined it so carefully either. Get on that! ... we need full report!!!! happy.pngbiggrin.png

Some how in last two weeks I have manage to leave key in ignition and not shut off, runs down the battery in a few hours... three times now! DUH!!! on me!!!! blink.png Wish the lights would shut off... when the stand is put down! The shop I get the battery re charged now amused when I show up ermm.gif!

Just a note about Malaysia: They don't have PCX's down there... so if major part needed it could be a bit of a wait to have it shipped down....

When we add up the features explained in TramsRepus's report, I wonder if the 150 can claim to be much better than the 125?

Acceleration was never lame in the earlier edition, given its weight and 125cc.

Particularly of interest for me is the question of top speed, which I had imagined might have been improved by 5kms or so - but it will take someone familiar with both to report usefully (i.e., using gps since speedometers are given to errors, each according to its whim).

Alternatively, perhaps the 150 can charge uphill somewhat more quickly? Or carry more at the same speed. Has nobody anything to say to recommend this 80,000K machine? Is the new Click 125i not faster all around?

Perhaps I'd be as happy with a second hand 125???

there are also new rear shocks(slightly higher and more solid) and a slightly longer wheel base, together withe the upgraded frame an all in all improved handling and of course more acceleration.....................Its well worth it - a different world to any nouvo or click/airblade.

Cheers Jay

I entirely agree with you, CMX

Subjectively I felt the PCX 125 was a very good performer, especially given its relatively high weight compared to its relatively small displacement of 125 cc's. What amazes me is that here in this forum no one has yet come forth to give us much in the way of hard core facts re the performance of this machine. I have for example intimated that with the 5.9 liter fuel tank compared to the 6.2 liter tank of the 125 that the new bike would suffer from a very measureable lack of comparative range. After all, it makes sense that 150 c'cs will eat more gas than the smaller 125. But this is only hypothetical speculating on my part.

Now.....when the 125 PCX first came out two of my fellow condo residents here gave me a pretty good idea of what the 125 PCX would do. The German told me he could get 300 kilometers to the tank out of his PCX. My Norwegian pal told me these things. "My pal, Kjell, driving his air blade rental couldn't begin to keep up with me on my PCX up the hills to Rayong." He then gave me specifics over how much the drivers and the passengers weighed on the two bikes and how fast the PCX would go up a given hill compared to the Air Blade. Per then suggested to me that the PCX would only go 106 kph and that it seemed to him that there was a governor on the bike because that's all it would go each and every time. Per also said that the bike was fast enough for any condition he wanted to throw at the bike. Later when I suggested that we do a side by side comparison between my Nouvo Elegance and his PCX to Rayong and back and that we accurately check our comparative fuel mileage Per jumped at the chance. Furthermore he wanted to do an accurate test so when I insisted we fuel up at the same pump at the same lean angle while filling up both bikes and when we got back from our excursion that we fill up at the same gas station and the same pump, etc, he was just as interested in doing it correctly as I was.

Now, I don't have the opportunity to do a comparison test of the new PCX and I doubt if I will have the opportunity to check out the new Nouvo 125 SX when it comes out either as it is unlikely that I will be buying either. If I do have the opportunity I will try to share my experience. For example....a good friend of mine will be coming back to Pattaya right after Songkran and when he does he will be buying a new bike. He will probably get the new fuel injected Yamaha Nouvo even though he's not jumping up for joy over its having been downsized by Yamaha. But..maybe he can still find a carbed Elegance 135 so I don't know how he will swing on this one. But I do think that if my friend gets the fuel injected model that his basic inquisitiveness will make him agree very readily to a comparison test between our bikes' relative fuel economy. In that event I'll tell everyone here what we find out.

In the meantime...hey guys....stop holding out on us. If you recently bought the new 150 PCX or if you are about to, do a little testing and please share your new found knowledge with the rest of us.

My previous PCX 125 could only manage about 220 km per tank until the indicator started to flash, how he gets 300km I don't know, I pick up my new one on Friday I'm sure they will be similar on fuel.

I filled up my first tank when the indicator started to flash and now it's flashing again. Trip meter reads 200 km so it would seem that the fuel economy between the 125 and 150 are about the same, given the smaller gas tank in the 150.

It is very simple. He was running it until the tank was about to run dry. and if he didn't do that, he probably filled it up a couple of times when the light started flashing. So Knowing Ludwig if it took say 5 liters to fill it when the light started flashing he worked it out what the bike would have gotten for the last 1.2 liters in the tank. EG...You know filled to the brim the tank holds 6.2 liters for the 125. If it takes 5 to fill it, you will use 1.2 liters more until you have finished the last drop of fuel. If you did 200 kilometers for the 5 liters you got 40 kilometers to the liter so you would have gotten 1.24 times 40 for the reserve portion of your tank or nearly 50 additional kilometers for a total range of 250 kilometers. Having a reserve of 1.2 liters for a total tank capacity of 6.2 liters seems pretty reasonable.

So let me ask you a question. You might be getting as low as 40 kilometers per liter, perhaps even lower. What kind of driving are you doing? Because if it's pattaya style city driving I'm going to say I might be getting just 25 kilometers to the liter in city driving but if I take my Elegance out on the interstate and drive less than 90 kilometers per hour I'm going to be getting over 43 kilometers per liter. There is a huge difference between the type of city driving we do here in the city and driving non stop on the highway. With my Honda Civic I might be getting only 25 miles to the gallon in the city but if I drive 100 kph I'll probably be doing 40 miles to the gallon.

90% of the time I'm in Pattaya suffering the traffic and the loons driving so i guess it would improve on the open road, I wouldn't trust fuel gauges so I fill up every 200km or so. economy is good with these bikes, i don't think you will get much better.

I agree with you there. And I think that's why some of the guys here have said the automatics suck the gas. They do--in the city. I have no idea of how accurate it is but there is some sort of computer on my Honda Civic and I kid you not....around here driving in the city it will show as low as 25 miles to the gallon but if I do a one hour drive to Rayong, there's not much traffic and I'm doing 100 to 105 kph that little computer is going to register 38 to 40 miles to the gallon and my Civic's an automatic. That is a 50 to 60 % improvement in fuel economy. As to my Elegance, I think you would get up to 115 miles to the gallon if you kept your speed constant and lower than say 85 kph. But here in Pattaya driving the Elegance is going to only get 60 to 65 miles to the gallon.

Going from memory with my Volkswagen Diesel the car was rated 37 mpg city and 49 miles to the gallon highway. That means one third better gas mileage highway versus city and I found that to be pretty much spot on. THere is no question according to my experience that whether you are driving a motorbike or a car you will get far worse than this 33 % decrease in mileage from city driving as compared to highway if you are driving in this city. It's because there is even more stop and go than if you are driving in most American cities and as for the highway portion of the driving you won't be driving as fast here as in the U.S. where instead of driving say 105 kph I'd be doing 120 to 125.

I did a fast trip to Lamphun today. First leg I rode along the Ping River until I came upon the Lamphun turn off, I made the wrong turn at a crossroad after about 3 or 4 k and made a circle. Ok I says went left when I should have went right. I went right and hit the 115 road into Lamphun. Drove around a bit in the city, stopped for a lemon tea. Decided to take the 106 back to Chiang Mai about 25 kilometers.

Over all a very nice ride total time riding and drinking tea 3 hours. The new seat an improvement over the stock seat as I can move around a bit more. Had the scooter up to 100k but crazy traffic so unable to open it up all the way.I am a big guy but plenty of power and acceleration.I rode a 125pcx to Mae Hong Song last year it was a dog on steep inclines, the 150pcx was a better preformer on the inclines around the Semong Loop a couple of weeks ago.

I have owned the new 150cc for 10 days now after previously owning the 125cc. Although having only ridden around 400 kilometres at speeds up to 65 -75 KPH there is definitely a marked increase in the performance especially on the inclines, I also think that the rear suspension is stiffer as has been mentioned on this site.

Another improvement is the change from IRC rubber to Dunlop TT 900's.

Being only 5'8" and weighing 82 KG the seat hump does not pose a problem for me.

Overall I'm very happy with my purchase being the Black and Red version which doesn't sound to be the most popular colour but fine for me.

Fuel gauges and their flashing points mean nothing. Question is how much fuel did it take to fill it up? What's the capacity? Then one knows how much was left. I have a friend who didn't bother with this and was stopping all the time for petrol because the gauge said to do it.

Turns out he had 2 liters left which on his bike meant almost another 100 kms to dry, but it never occurred to him that by knowing how much it took to fill it up and subtracting that from the capacity that he'd know how much he truly had left in the tank.

Of course, once I know what my gauge means by top of the red or bottom (by my having measured real liters after several fillups), it can guide me. But my gauge will be different from yours, even if we have the same bike sometimes.

Speedometers are probably even more unreliable, which is why borrowing a gps if necessary, and measuring the speedo against it - just once or twice - will let me know what speed my bike is really going; posters who speak of speedometer readings that have not been verified tell us very little of use.

for crying out loud - its 25cc's more !

as a black/red 125 pcx owner - i can't see the point of "upgrading"......

True, but there are some people on this forum wondering if buying a new PCX150 would be a better purcahse than a 2nd hand PCX125.

Then there are some people like myself who's curious to see if the price tag has finally been justified. smile.png

The new 150 can be purchased for under THB80,000. I remember dealers quoting close to and even above this price for the 125 (before the 150 was released).

Any idea what sort of prices are being quoted for a 2nd hand 125?

I remember reading in an earlier thread about GPS Navigation for motorbikes but can't for the life of me find this thread. Does anyone know where (in and around Bangkok) I can install a cigarette lighter unit for the PCX so that I can plug my GPS into it? Planning a long road trip this coming Songkran so it would definitely come in very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

It's pretty much a no brainer then is it? A 2nd hand 125 costing the same as a brand new 150?

ive seen them under 60k selling 2nd hand (125 version )

you just have to be lucky to find someone selling one because they do sell quick in thailand

a PCX is proabbaly the thai social -status equivalent of a BMW or a MERC in the west :D

Check out your local foam shops for price... to do....

Sorry could find the side on picture... The Shad 45 box now has matching colour back rest..... the blue vinyl makes it easier to spot in parking lot! The other choice of vinyl at the time was "Miss Kitty" !!! sick.gif
