April 5, 201213 yr I've been informed I am not allowed to change my avatar. Although some members also like to use it as a means of attacking my personality, guess some people can't take a joke. Boo recently changed her avatar and I must say it threw me.
April 5, 201213 yr Author And then there's new members using old member's avatars. That throws me off too Oh THAT one is REALLY hard to get my head around too!!
April 5, 201213 yr get outta here...I didn't have an avatar for nearly 10 years and then the new forum format made not having one inconvenient...I haven't surfed in 15 years (last time was near the famous point break near Pelabuhanratu in West Java in 1995) but a surfer is what I useta be...lived for it, goddamit and I was always a so Cal lad so the surfer that you see is what I was like; about 6' waves and enjoying meself...better than sex as we always say...anything bigger became difficult and no longer any fun.. but then I got diabetes and became dysfunctional and now I'm not sure what I was tryin' to say...but, yeah, high up on the wave in the fastest part and heading at full speed past the next collapsing section, that's me but with a longer board with a spoon nose for riding the nose on the inside...sbk, I never could ride Steamers near UCSC when it was big as I was unsure of my ability with the cliffs but I managed Pleasure Point OK on a big day...but it also don't got a beach and I got smashed one time with my new Becker when I misjudged...but not before I got a couple of good rides in 1986... not being able to surf anymore as a sick old man has been one of the hardest things to take about gettin' old...
April 5, 201213 yr oh, and let me tell you how I sliced up my foot bouncing off the coral at Pelabuhanratu...sliced the sole offa half of my left foot that did...and then it healed over but was infected and I had to go to the clinic in Jakarta to have it lanced and cleaned with nurses and attendants holding me down screaming in pain... when I related the story later a brit woman who I never liked was in attendance and sneered: 'a sissy are you?'...insult to injury...later an 11 y.o. niece in Thailand got a bad scrape on her arm and I disinfected it carefully with some alcohol worrying about the pain and she just looked me in the eye and didn't flinch...so, yes; I am a sissy...

This thread could become really scary, with a little luck "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
April 6, 201213 yr alot of mine have been removed A lot of what? Most forum members only have two, the ladies have alternative pairs of things, like SBK's high boots, f'r instance.
April 6, 201213 yr Author Boots? Me think theres a bit overzealous imagination at play. Funny how projecting can take place sometimes NOWwwww..if Ms SBK DID decide to have an avatar with high boots, that would be fair enough..but keep it in the same vein. Ie: if she were to do a variety of different shoe type poses. Just like if Humphrey were to choose another sporting position or me an alternative pink kitty pose (and in fact i usually don a christmas hat over December period). But if Humphrey bear were to suddenly change into a leopard or sbk were to become a bottle of Heineken or ...etc etc....then it just wouldnt be cricket really now, would it?
April 6, 201213 yr lol HB, thats not a pair of boots! Imagination trumps eyesight in such circumstances.
April 7, 201213 yr lol HB, thats not a pair of boots! Imagination trumps eyesight in such circumstances. Its not poker. A nice pair trumps anything SC
April 7, 201213 yr Some good points - we come to look at avs when reading comments, and get thrown when someone uses an av already in use by another BM (or previous BM). I think we tend to respond to posters by reference to their prior posting style and content, and when we see their av it brings forth a bit of a mental picture of how we feel about the poster's online character. Thus, we see some avs and either ignore the post or have a preconceived bias against the likely content of the post; we see other avs and we read the post with interest. I was thinking of changing mine, but for better or worse, people probably identify me with it.
April 7, 201213 yr Yes, retired the dancing girl again, when the forum was upgraded I couldn't find the gif so changed meself to she-ra. who I look exactly like in real life, complete with golden headress & dazzling white basque.
April 7, 201213 yr I don't understand this need to personalise one's posts with an avatar. Personally, I'm quite happy with the default silhouette.
April 8, 201213 yr I still trying to get my eye working again. Cannot find original as yet. It works OK in the profile, but not in Bedders. Mite need to find a nutha eye. Gotta be a good spy..... ...

April 8, 201213 yr I don't understand this need to personalise one's posts with an avatar. Personally, I'm quite happy with the default silhouette. I take it that when you say you 'don't understand' the need for an av, this is a recent epiphany? But I'll grant you that your 'default' silhouette av (yes, I get the irony) or for that matter, any other av you should choose, is far preferable to the irksome one you used to have. I suppose that congratulations are in order. Now if we could only persuade Pete to retire any notion of finding another twitching orb...

April 8, 201213 yr Perhaps it's just me - but in case anyone else has no idea who 'she-ra' is - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/She-ra E: And having read the article, I remain none the wiser...
April 10, 201213 yr I get PM's with requests that I change mine. I just hit the Esc button..................
April 10, 201213 yr I've done a few creative ones, but it freaks people out when you shrink something large into something small. I won't go into description.

April 10, 201213 yr ^I don't know about a hot wash, but the Seinfeld episode about shrinkage is on the money...
