Concrete Pavers For Driveway....

Recommended Posts

...anyone ever use these, here? They are designed so that grass can grow up in the voids and being without the thermal mass, they are cooler than a slab driveway. I am looking for about 100 square meters for our driveway. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I would like to find out the ballpark price and the dimensions of the individual pavers....although I imagine they vary significantly. Thanks....ett

A few friends have similar for their drives. All used the bricks that you see in the garden walls with the various patterns and spaces. How long they will last I couldn't tell you as they are not really designed to be used in wet conditions. If the area you use is well drained you will get a good few years out of them.

If you DIY it takes a lot of time to cut the plugs from the sods that you buy and stuff them in each hole or if you are lucky you might find grass seed, I got seed from the the big market opposite Bangkok /Pattaya hospital but it's by no means a regular supply or may not be close to you.

Wifey wants to use these for our parking area. Anyone got recent prices in the Bangkok area?

I would ask the good lady, but "can you find out how much they are" is internally translated as "fine Honey, go and spend 200k on whatever" :(

Does anyone know what is needed to prepare the ground before laying these ? i.e. does it need compacted stone as a foundation then sand to bed the block into ?

You would need some sort of compacted surface to start with I would think. Keep in mind if you are doing it for the water-run-off reason, then the subsurface needs to be permeable. Perhaps gravel and then I would embed them in sand. This needs to be done to grade so you don't end up with a roller-coaster effect. You can use a water level to mark a control elevation mark on pieces of bamboo you drive into the ground at certain intervals and then go from there. Or get a transit and use a rod or even make your measuring stick with a piece of bamboo. When the subsurface is all done, start setting the pavers and then use sand to fill in as in a dry mortar. I plan to have grass growing through the ones I use. Good luck. ett
