BANGKOK July 28, 2012 [PDN]. Police conducted a simultaneous raid of 13 warehouses scattered around Bankgok that contained smuggled sex toys and sex-enhancement drugs and mobile phone equipment. More than 100 million baht was circulating through a network of Chinese Thai relatives running the illegal operation.

A massive police raid of warehouses containing smuggled sex toys and drugs was announced by Mr. Tharit Pengdit, director general of Department of Special Investigation, DSI; Mr. Pasit Sakdadamron, adviser of the minister of public health ministry; Pol. Maj. Gen. Chaiyuth Jianrasirikul, director of Chakrawat police station; Pol.Lt.Col.ChinChot Dansurisri, commissioner of intellectual property division; and officers from the Chakrawat police station.

The raid began with a search of a Chinatown building at address number 439, Mangkorn road, district and sub district Sampanthawong. A prior investigation had revealed it was a warehouse of fake sex enhancement drugs and sex toys smuggled from outside Thailand. Police searched room 305 on the third floor and 503 on the fifth floor, seizing tens of thousands of sex-related items.

At the Chinatown raid, police made four arrests of people who owned or managed the warehouse: Mrs. Sirirat Tiabpad, Mrs. Wilai Chaosakrai, Mr. Somporn Lonchampa and Mr. Puchong Thaisanga.

The raid was the result of a months-long investigation by the division of intellectual property of the DSI. Police coordinated the raid by dividing police forces to make a same-day raid of all 13 warehouses containing the sex enhancement drugs, sex toys, and smuggled mobile phone equipment.

The warehouses were scattered around Bangkok, in the Yaowarat, Sapanlek, Wat Tuek, Bangbon, Soi Suksawat 26, and Soi Issarapap 29 areas. At the Soi Suksawat 26 warehouse, a 4-story business building, police found mobile phone equipment stored inside.

Mr. Tharit said the 13 warehouses were all part of a network that stored goods before dispersing it to agents in many places. The operation was conducted by relatives who created a communication and transportation system. The money circulating within their operation totaled over 100 million baht, police said.

Police officers were gathering all evidence to expand the case to track down and catch everyone involved in one sweep. They discovered that there were six leaders of the operation, all Chinese Thais.

When all are caught, they will be charged with violating commercial law codes, the copyright code, trade mark code, criminal laws regarding adult pornography, tariff and revenue codes, and the food and drugs code.

They will also be charged with selling unregistered drugs, and selling drugs without permission documents.

Didn't Thailand get them memo that having sex toys be illegal is ARCHAIC (and in the case of the phallic ones -- misogynist)? Can't blame the coppers for sometimes doing their jobs though. The laws are on the books. WHY?

I have often wondered why the need for "sex toys' in Thailand when there are so many available attractive women around. That may sound awful un-PC, but I believe these toys they seized should be distributed to more needy countries like the U.K., U.S.A., where the beauties are scarcer. whistling.gif

i think you may have missed out on the pleasurable use of (the majority) of sex toys. Attractiveness or not is not really part of the equation.

Pathetic,

Have these clowns nothing better to do?

Is it a question of inadequacy?

What next? Female circumcision.....

That's my theory. It's mostly about the dildos.

Looks like a ladyboy doll.

It'll be a blow to the industry that's for sure.

Those big black ones hurt, so happy to see them gone.

This is actually very funny, a short walk around chinatown and you can find street stalls that exclusively sell dildos. What's the point on raiding the warehouse if you don't do anything to the shops? I guess it's just to remind the rest of them to pay every month.

BTW this law is plain stupid, and investing tax payers money on that is even more stupid.

In a better Thailand, there would be a shop like this at Siam Paragon:

http://www.goodvibes.com/main.jhtml

It is also could be a huge industry for Thailand, producing better sex toys. The thing is because sex toys are underground in Thailand, the QUALITY of what is on offer is very, very low.

I guess it would take major cajones for a Thai politician to advocate rethinking these archaic anti-sex toy laws. So it won't happen. A bit pitiful really.
