It is time for ALL countries to warn folk that LOS may not be all it seems regarding the land of smiles in certain locations.

Transam...Once upon a time....a very long time ago....in a far away land ...perhaps considered

a paradise by many....deceiving appearances applied mainly to ladyboys and first time travelers

to said land with regard to being unable to tell what's what & who's who. Times have changed eh?

Bad for the girls...hope the BiB get the perps asap but highly unlikely it seems.

Of course, in this unfortunate case, excessive drinking may have been involved and therefore the ability to make good decisions may have been impaired.

So you are blaming the victims then ?.....

No...but I could see how that could be read into my statement. I wanted to convey that even if they had received a warning about crime in pattaya, after a nite of drinking (of which there is noting wrong with while on holiday) anyones ability to make a judgment about whether it was safe to walk home late at note might be impaired. I am not blaming them for drinking and then being a victim of a crime.

Investigation into Russian assault and robbery case continues

russian-1.jpg

PATTAYA:--A pick-up has been seized and four men are currently undergoing DNA testing as the investigation into the recent case of two Russian female tourists, who were abducted and then sexually assaulted in a remote area in the nearby Hua Yai area earlier this week, continues.

Both victims are desperate to return to Russia and have books flights to return on 4th January after details of the case reached the Russian press. For this reason local reporters are now banned from filming any part of the investigation and must rely on “sources” for their information.

The four men currently under detention by Tourist Police were known to have been interrogated for 3 hours before being sent for DNA tests.

Pretty difficult to prosecute a rape case without the primary witnesses..unless they plan to return for the trial.

Thats why tourist areas are great targets, either for rapes or robberies. The victim cannot usually hang around for a trial. Although not really sure what kind of trial they have here, since most are "persuaded" to confess, as soon as they are caught.

Russian Tourist Assault in Pattaya… Update

rg2.jpg

PATTAYA: -- The vicious sexual assault on two professional Russians who are currently tourists in Pattaya has prompted a full scale investigation by local and regional police

After most news services honoured a requested news blackout, to aid the investigation, more details have now been released regarding the attack on the two women who were abducted on their way back to their hotel and are said to have been transported to a reservoir in the rural area of Hua Yai in a pickup truck,by a group of men who later stripped them and assaulted them after stealing their possessions.

It has now been established that 4 men are wanted for questioning by the authorities and that the first vehicle which came to the attention of the police has been discounted from the investigation after one of the two stated that she had vomited in the vehicle, and no traces were found when it was examined.

Police are seeking a green Toyota “mighty” X which has or had distinctive white wheel rims after CCTV cameras showed the two women coming into contact with the people in the truck in South Pattaya.

Now a case of national importance, Thailand’s most senior investigators have been assigned to the case and have briefed local enforcement officers as they continue their investigations.

" The vicious sexual assault on two professional Russians who are currently tourists in Pattaya has prompted a full scale investigation by local and regional police "

The vicious sexual assault has prompted nothing from the police....the publicty around in case in Russia and possbility of losing Russian tourist dollars has prompted a full scale investigation...hence the reason this is a "Now a case of national importance"

According to Thairath, police arrested one man today who's been identified by both of the victims. They've also located the pickup truck, which had been dumped in Udon Thani province. Police expect to make further arrests.

It was also disclosed that one of the victims is a renowned doctor from Moscow, also married to a doctor. The other victim worked for a famous Russian company.

Amazing Thailand indeed...how competent the police can be when the right kind of pressure is placed upon them. I mean, finding one of the perps and the truck up somewhere in Udon Nowhere. Now just need a *********trial while the witnesses are still around.

.... Those with opinions on the effectiveness of RTP investigations based on how upset they get when they see the cops fleecing farangs on motorcycles outside the Soi 9 police station should please just <deleted>.

A Cynic is someone who remembers a couple Russian women shot dead on the beach and suspecting nobody paid an appropriate penalty.

What is with all this never-ending cynicism? Is it stylish? Since everyone posting is just another indiscernible 'Senior Member' with several thousand posts, does being super cynical somehow set you apart from the morass of jaded, narrow-minded, been-there-done that, too long in LOS brigade? Let us try and recognize this incident for what it is. Two foreign victims of rape and assault came forward and filed a complaint which was taken very seriously. Regardless of whether the prime motivation was protecting the Russian tourist dollar, or Pattaya's 'reputation', the police have used CCTV and other investigative tools to track some individuals and a vehicle at a time when most itinerant Pattaya workers, hangers-on, low-lifes and criminals head home. No easy task.

The victims made the critical first move in reporting the incident. Brave women in my book, facing all sorts of speculation as to what sort of women were drinking and wandering about at that hour of the night... but carry on whore mongering in the meantime gents. The net result of the local foreign-language news channels questionable acts in going very public with this cannot be denied. It made this news item a high visibility, high priority case in the middle of high season. As a result, the RTP are doing a good job in finding the perpetrators. Those with opinions on the effectiveness of RTP investigations based on how upset they get when they see the cops fleecing farangs on motorcycles outside the Soi 9 police station should please just <deleted>.

Seeing as your comments are directed at me, please allow me to respond, absolutely nothing to do with farangs being fleeced by the BIB outside Soi 9 copshop...but my cynicism is in response comments made by a top Policeman and I quote....

"The General made it very clear that the reputation of Pattaya, especially in relation to the Russian tourism market"....in other words, they are more worried about the publicity of the case and loosing tourist dollars, they dont give a sh*t about the victims, or serving justice and if there wasnt so much publicity they wouldnt be throwing resources at this case....

as the regards your <deleted> comment....its an open forum, I have given an on topic opinion on the subject which is within the rules of TV, so if you object....use the report button...rolleyes.gif

You know where they resided? Dragon Beach Hotel, the same where a Russian hanged himself before yesterday. I love conspiracies. The story with the two Russian women was that a jealous Thai woman hired a thug to kill them. He got caught and was sentenced to death. http://nationmultimedia.com/2007/09/04/national/national_30047649.php

That's the end of news on Anuchit Lamlert. No review of the case by a higher court by automatic appeal (for death penalties), no execution, or reprieve, or release on record. Have a look at the pic in the link, he could well be back to Pattaya. What happened to the Thai woman who alledgedly hired him is not recorded either.

Annuchit Lamlert was arrested, confessed, charged and sentenced to death. Despite the shared supposition that someone, possibly non- Thai ordered the killing, the actual killer has been caught and justice served.

No, my standalone post was not directed at you personally so sorry that you wasted your time on that response. Nice to see that the cynics do have a spokesman though.

And India is going to clean up it's buses and catch and punish rapists because Indian womanhood deserves better? Please... I have already worked out that rapes in Pattaya, murders in Ranong and muggings in Krabi, crimes against expatriates get 'solved' due to the overwhelming concern for the well being of their fellow man a long, long time ago. It's the endless smartarse cynicism that gets on my tits, not the fact that our hosts, just like many other nationalities, can be quite a deceitful bunch.

Did it escape you that the truck has been found? It's registered to someone, and to find out the usual companions of this person should be no trouble. Therefore, the police should have a list of several suspects. Instead, the last news said they're looking for one man, and "the General made it clear on Sunday that he expects arrests to be made soon but they may take some time."

Police Release Sketch in Russian Rape Case

PATTAYA:--Desperate Pattaya police released a sketch of a Thai suspect involved in the Christmas Day assault of two Russian female tourists. The victims were forced into a pickup truck on Pratumnak Hill by three men, who raped and robbed them in a remote area. News of the crime in Russian news media is damaging Pattaya’s image, and police are under pressure to solve the crime quickly.

PATTAYA – December 29, 2012 [PDN]; at 6 p.m., the head of the Pattaya police detective team pursued another lead in the rape and robbery case of two Russian tourists in the predawn darkness of December 25, 2012.

An inmate in Pattaya prison had been convicted of raping a woman in the same place that the Russian tourists were assaulted. It was hoped that the inmate might have useful information about the wanted suspects.

However, after interviewing the prisoner, the lead proved to be another dead end, said Pol. Lt. Col. Parksuwat Rodthanom, Deputy Superintendent, Borthong police station, Chonburi province. The police detective team leader said the inmate did not have relevant information.

The investigative police team is rushing to solve the case, after being summoned for a meeting by Pol. Gen. Aek Angsananon, Deputy Director-General. He ordered the investigation and detective police team of police section 2 to rush to investigate and track down the three suspects. The deputy Director-General told the subordinates that the more time passes, the more difficult it will be to find the suspects.
