Despite Russias role as the main supplier of weapons to Bashar al-Assads regime, an advocacy group has put the presidents name forward because the former KGB agent actively promotes settlement of all conflicts arising on the planet.

The International Academy of Spiritual Unity and Cooperation of Peoples of the World made no mention of Putins ruthless and violent campaign against the separatists in Chechnya or the war he waged on Georgia, but instead points to his efforts to prevent a US air strike on the Syrian regime following a chemical gas attack in August.

All he has done is enable the regime to continue killing people but without the use of chemical weapons.

Putin has allowed the black cowl of Russian orthodoxy to descend on the people. How on Earth is that a good thing alone?

I can think of a few others that have won the Peace Prize and have done little to nothing to deserve it.

It would indeed be ironic if Putin fails to get the peace prize for opposing outside intervention first in Libya, then in Syria, when Obama wins the prize for doing squat. Then of course he is instrumental in the invasion of Libya and is pressing for military action in Syria. Yes the prize is as tarnished as the U.N and should be kicked out with the trash.

I have also seen an article in the past few days where the Russians have nominated Edwin Snowdon for a major prize. It seems that at this time the Russians are intent on taking gold for every doubtful activity they engage in.

The terrorist Arafat got it and Obama for doing nothing. Why not?
