Basically you can't and you're expected to wait 4 weeks. If you still haven't received your new passport by then, your only option is to call a very expensive help-line back in the UK to find out why.

28 days door to door is the going rate but some can expect longer/may need to submit new photos if their photos were photo-shopped & not detected prior to being forwarded to HMPO.

Ah,so they still do it through Hong Kong. When I recently had my PP renewed I was told it would be done direct to London soon. People who are going to renew should keep an eye on this. Things are going to change.

I have just looked at the UK embassy site and the passport renewal link there tells you to send the renewal to Liverpool. Hong Kong isn't mentioned anymore.

That's very interesting the link confirms the applications now have to be sent to Liverpool.

They used to justify the extra cost of processing an overseas application by claiming they had to factor in the cost of maintaining an office in Hong Kong. Now they have seemingly done away with this, surely the cost should be the same as a UK application, plus the extra cost of delivery, but no it's still an extra £55, plus the courier fee.

Simply amazing.

I wonder what happened to the plan to apply online?

Agreed -------That is interesting ! I have just followed the "instructions" and ended with Liverpool.

Suspect a problem with the web site and would therefore seek guidance from the Embassy !
