Cheaper to run 1 airconditioner or 3?

Featured Replies

Hi

Sounds like a stupid question.

I have a 2 bed condo in chiang mai

I have 1 X 15 btu in the living room

1 X 8 btu in the small bedroom

1 X 8 btu in large bedroom

The 15btu in living room (actually think it might be 25 btu but im not climbing out the window to check i live on 4th floor) - when all bedroom doors are open it cools the whole condo down perfectly.

Also, at this time of year actually one of the 8btus in bedroom can cool the whole condo down also.

So im thinking at night. Better to have one of each of the 8btus running in each bedroom. Or just keep all the doors open and just run one airconditioner.

What costs more electricity wise? Not good to have an 8btu on flat out cooling the whole condo down? Maybe wear the compressor out more quickly?

Condo is 50 sqm i think

If you have easy access to your electric meter and know how to read it why not do a few tests. To be reasonably accurate you would need compare the reading when the outside air conditions were similar. 8Btu's won't really cool much ... 8000Btu is more like it.

I would think that running the smaller units with the bedroom doors shut would be better .... but I could be wrong ... am always according to my wife smile.png

A/Cs you must be kidding,at the moment I feel quite cold here

in Chiang Mai, could do with a heater at night, maybe been here

too long, blood getting thinner, wife says but you Farang !

regards Worgeordie

Just use the air con in the room that you are using at the time,

that way your not wasting energy cooling down other rooms that

aren't needed.
