If American style rude financial stereotype labels were applied to expats!

Featured Replies

OK, news has come out that there are is a huge industry in stereotypically labeling American consumers based on their credit card purchasing patterns. These lists are sold to other firms to market stuff to these segmented groups in a targeted way.

The labels can be very rude and also sometimes quite funny! (Read the graphic below and you will see.)

Now just for fun, please suggest similar rude labels for our group -- EXPATS in Thailand!

Just post all the suggestions you like and they can be any class of expats ... from the lowest of the losos to highest of the hisos. Of course, the ruder and funnier the better.

Assuming a good list is generated, I will then compose a POLL (Happy Festivus!) so that y'all can vote and LABEL yourselves for even further amusement.

I can't guarantee all of your ideas will get in the poll or even if there will be a poll. Your suggestions are needed! If there aren't enough usable suggestions (yes I decide), the poll is a no go.

To get an idea of some of these rude labels (this is a REAL thing) here is a list of American ones :

That's just plain rude and insulting to any group. It's hard for me to believe that a real legitimate company which compiles lists of demographic groups to target for advertising actually uses those crude terms.

I call this a troll thread.

I call this a troll thread.

Are you joking?

Of course this is for real.

In case your labeling this a troll thread was actually sincere, here you go Buster! I accept your apology. This time anyway. whistling.gif

Thanks to a new Senate Commerce Committee report, we now have a picture of how that process works — and it's not pretty.

...

The enormous amount of data these firms collect on individual consumers raise obvious concerns about privacy, but one particular finding in the study could add to the alarm: The companies categorize each consumer by income -- in very specific ways. For example, descriptions of the financially insecure consumer groups targeted by these firms include "Ethnic Second-City Strugglers" and "Rural and Barely Making It."

"Retired, relying on exchange rate"

"Piss poor pensioner, cant manage back home"

"Living the dream, but will wake up soon"

"Drunk mostly, and couldnt care less"

"No money, no honey, no hope"

"All in, but still gambling"

Thanks.

Someone who is getting the concept.

It's a start.

Let's keep going!

Also keep in mind it's OK to get geographically specific about stereotypes of the Thai LOCATIONS of expats.
