Red shirts in Chiang Mai in favour of new capital in case of coup

Well fine yes, but if the govt offices, internet hubs, ports, airport, oil refineries are all out of your control, they would run out of money in a week. Didn't think of that one did you, mmm, and you get upset when people call you buffaloes!

Can you imagine the investment opportunities to built all that?

Modern one-stop government centers are already in place built by TRT in Chiang Mai, Udon, Korat and other major cities - students from 8 different Northern provinces are already studying in Chiang Mai's universities - in the meantime China to the North and Cambodia to the East would be more than happy to help out as getaways - there are already more direct flights to China from Chiang Mai Airport on 5 different airlines than to any other country.

It's not impossible to do - the investment opportunities are endless!

And one more thing - not sure if you are new here? Always remember NEVER insult anybody in Thailand and call them a kwai or "buffalo" - unless you want to have your head smashed in?

well let's look at that:

- Yes it was true that, Overall, CM universities had a good 'image'. Check Again and please tell me honestly whether this is still true. I might add, I'm involved - it's no longer true.

- As a much smaller point, tell me how many CM universities run parallel Thai and English language courses - I can give you a specific answer - it's very close to zero.

Ohh.... "And one more thing - not sure if you are new here? Always remember NEVER insult anybody in Thailand and call them a kwai or "buffalo" - unless you want to have your head smashed in?"

Is that a threat or it is intimidation? Not really the way forward is it?

- Students from 8 provinces. So what?

I was pointing out that it is not impossible and that there are incredible investment opportunities ........

and don't be so childish! I have never threatened or intimated anybody in my life...........I was merely advising an obvious newcomer - NEVER to use the "K" word - when any Thais are around - if you don't believe me go ahead and try it out go and tell a Thai he is a "buffalo" in Thai! You have been warned!

RED SHIRT REBEL YELL: THE NORTH SHALL RISE AGAIN

PROPOSED ANTHEM: (THE NORTH IS RED)

TUNE: DIXIE

I'm glad to be in the Land of Lanna

Greatest place in Sipsongpanna

Look away, Look away, Look away, Lanna Land

In Old Chiangmai where I was born

On a smoky April morning

But I'll stay, yes I'll stay, right here in Lanna Land

Here we love our eatin' and kissin'

And you're welcome, friends from Issan

Look away, Look away, Look away, Lanna Land

Yingluck, she looks mighty pretty

We like KaoSoi in Chiangmai City

Every day, every day, every day in Lanna Land

Bangkok's flooding like a fountain

But here Suthep is just a mountain

Breakaway, Breakaway, Breakaway Lanna Land

Well, we're pleased to be in Lanna

Hooray, Hooray

In Lanna Land, we'll take our stand

To live or die in Lanna

Away, away, away up north in Lanna

Don't give up your day job.cheesy.gif

This was an awesome song when the King (Elvis) sang it!

Lets hope there never is civil war in Thailand, if there is us farangs better be the first to leave.

those thinking this will be a case of the army supporting the south are clueless, the army would be divided as would the police force

and I would not expect too many high-so's on the barricades.

The Thai-visa mafia need to sober up.

Yeah. This is craziness. If this happens, this country and any expat appeal is over.

"It is likely the government will move to Chiang Mai. We can defeat tanks because we have the numbers," Kawang added.

How do propose to defeat the fighter jets, attack helicopters, and bombers?

Watermelon s
Didn't Thaksin have some lunatic plan to barter chickens for fighter jets? They can set up their own air force no problem.

As the democraticly elected government in Chang Mai, PTP would have the support of the international community, including the USA, & nearby China. No doubt a number of countries could provide military support for the YL Group against an illegal coup attempt.

Don't forget about what happened to Vietnam war, Afghan etc. By all means, come with your fighters jets, attack helicopters and bombers. You probably forgot where the military get its soldiers etc.

Loving all the debate on this, in reality its all a red herring. (pardon the pun)

The truth is its just another smart bit of posturing by the Reds to ensure no coup takes place. Time after time after time in all this Suthep has been outsmarted by these "buffaloes" up North. (or the man paying them depending on your viewpoint.) This is another example.

Suthep has failed repetitively in his "final pushes" and his plans to set up a parallel police and government have all failed as well. For months now its been clear his only hope is a coup and he desperately tries to incite violence daily to ignite one. Alas Thaskins cronies made the police withdraw and removed their supporters from Bangkok and Suthep has been been left marching round the capital.looking increasingly isolated as protester numbers fall.

In this latest twist, as the threat of a coup escalates again, and Suthep gets once again hopeful, the Reds are putting to bed any prospect of a coup before it even begins. They know even the guys pulling Sutheps strings dont want a split country and its check mate once again to the wee man in Dubai.

As corrupt and ruthless as he is, you cant help but admire the way he outsmarts this yellow lot time and time again.

So much for the King's wish of keeping Thailand together. Sure, no canal passage through Ranong, but disrespect his wishes with separate Thai hemispheres?

We know where their hearts lie.

May be some farang will leave, especially those living in BKK. However, I believe many will fight alongside the northern people - you may call them the Lanna people.

Really, you just did the intimidation thing again.

You really think every poster here is a newbie? Plenty here have been very immersed in Thai culture etc., for very long time and well aware of what's OK and what's insulting etc., etc., and always very sensitive to these items.

What's' next - a nasty PM like another of your ilk?

Thinking with my wallet split rather my heart it occurs to me that the new Northern Thai Republic - working title Lannaland splits off - the Lanna baht floats at half the Bangkok baht - northern Thais remain welcome and open to good hearted farangs (no more Pattaya in this mix) - all of a sudden our hard earned pounds or dollars are back at their old rates. Net result our retirement incomes are suddenly doubled with the benefit of cool winters. I'm in if there is little bloodshed and a quick return to order and business as usual.

Are you Swiss by any chance?

A tatty old Brit frayed around the edges and seeking to eak out his meagre retirement funds in the Land of Tears with friends on both sides of this terrible divide.

There’s a well known joke about a tourist in Ireland who asks one of the locals for directions to Dublin. The Irishman replies: ‘Well sir, if I were you, I wouldn’t start from here’.Thats how I feel about this beautiful poisoned jewel of a country.

Two capitals? Or two countries? Should make for an interesting Asean launch.

And "... We are willing to sacrifice our lives," said Kawang, president of the alumni association of Yupparaj school." Easy to say when you almost certainly won't be in the front line. What was the saying? Lions led by donkeys?

hahahahahahaha, somehow I think being stupid is the most important part of being a red, the second would be to stick them in a barrell full of sh*t and see if you can spot them, if not they are in. These people are just too silly for words, have they worked out who is going to pay for all their corruption if Bangkok is not there, how they will survive without all the taxes, being land locked, no one to pay the farmers for their rice(not that they are being payed now). They also need to realize that throwing stones at tanks doesnt really stop them but I would love to watch them try, what a hoot that would be, popcorn and a big bottle of coke, make great entertainmentw00t.gif . Poor buggers, sounds like a lack of oxygen to the brain(if they actually have one)

how they will survive being land locked

This is coming up time and time again so lets address a few things.

1) There are many examples of landlocked countries infinitely wealthier than Thailand. Furthermore with the implementation of the ASEAN goods would be free to move into any Southern State without additional levy.

2) Thailands biggest export market by some way is China. As you probably arent aware Ill point out to you China lies about 50 miles from the NORTHERN border of Thailand.

As I mentioned above this wont happen as its simply the Reds posturing to ensure a coup wont take place and Suthep will be removed from the stage sooner rather than later.

Will the Economist do as a source? I personally find their idea about separation absolutely idiotic but nothing surprises me from heavyweight intellectuals like Jatuporn, Nattawut, Arisman, Master English holder Yingluck who cannot string two sentences together etc...etc..."C'est la vie" as French say.

'Indeed, many red shirts say Bangkok is already lost. Mr Suthep has nearly free rein there, closing down most government offices. The police have charged him with insurrection and seizing state property, but no attempt has been made to arrest him. The imposition of a state of emergency for 60 days may not make much difference.

Thus most red shirts in the north and north-east now contemplate—indeed they seem to be preparing for—a political separation from Bangkok and the south. Some can barely wait. In Chiang Mai a former classmate of Mr Thaksin’s says that in the event of a coup “the prime minister can come here and we will look after her. If…we have to fight, we will. We want our separate state and the majority of red shirts would welcome the division.” Be afraid for Thailand as the political system breaks down."

You think many foreigners would take up arms and fight in a Thai civil war?

If you are referring to westerners, I really hope you're wrong, Partly because it would mean that many foreigners are crazier than I previously thought.
