Plated or buffet (carvery)?

There are a lot of places on the darkside that do plated Sunday roast for 150-200B. I generally go to one of them. In fact I'll be off there in an hour or so. smile.png

There's also a place near the lake that does a nice Sunday roast for 100B, though the serving is a tad small.

Several places in and around Soi Buakou do Sunday roasts for around the same 150B. I've tried quite a few over the years and I like Cafe Pattini. A place a couple of doors up from there does a carvery for about 225B but the meat looks boiled rather than roasted to me. It's very popular though.

The Sportsman carvery in Pattaya is good but it's very overpriced at about 425B. And they have the cheek to charge an extra 95B for a couple of slices of lamb.

Dicey Rielly's around the corner is good value at 350B but the food is warm-ish rather than hot. Not sure if I've mentioned before that they charge an obscene 80B for a small bottle of water which makes them a rip-off in my book.

Had intended trying the Acorn carvery but apparently it's closed.

Shenanigans in Jomtien does a carvery. I heard it was OK but overpriced.

That should get you started.

Chill Bar on Nern Plabwan does an excellent Sunday roast (beef, chicken or pork) for around 200 baht, lamb 40 baht more. It's a huge serving, would satisfy the hungriest of people. Chill bar is on the left hand side heading towards the temple, about a half a km past Pussycat.

Red Lion do good Sundays roasts on the Dark Side....especially if they have the beef on offer.

Yaya's also do them on Khao Talo

Im away at the moments but my folks tell me there is a new bar / restaurant on the same side as the Red Lion that is supposed to do very good food and maybe even Sunady roast......their lamb kebab is apparently to die for.

Khao Noi sports bar is a hidden gem that I have recently found, IMO hands down the best roast I have had in Pattaya.

You get the full works with plenty of meat, 2 yorkshires, mashed and roast potatoes, those little sauasages and obviously veggies. It is very tasty.

Prices around the same as chilli bar around200 baht for pork, beef, chicken and extra for lamb.

In fact all their food is good, give it a try. Can sit in or outside.

Khao Noi sports bar ....

Where on Khao Noi?

The menu comes with more superfluous apostrophes than you can shake a stick at. I hope the cooking is better than the grammar.

These people also seem to do "everyday roasts" which presumably may suit those who work on Sunday. Cafe Pattini does those too, I think.

I know this is a long shot, but do any of these places to cauliflower cheese and treacle tart (anywhere that does TT)?

Two of the weird things i get a hankering for. CC can be found in BKK in some pub lunches and some high end restaurants will make it for you, but have never found TT anywhere despite scouting out some high end Patisseries as well as the frozen sections of supermarkets.

I think that the Sportsman and Dicey Reilly's both do cauliflower cheese. Nice enough, but neither tastes very cheesy.

I've had treacle tart at the Hilton lunch buffet occasionally but it isn't a permanent fixture. You can cook it yourself at home quite easily.

Punch and Judy has CC as an optional extra on Sundays, 40 baht on top of the roast dinner - sometimes its big enough to not need the dinner with it, other times a bit more frugal, but always tasty.

I thought the pizza joint (the Italian restaurant) on Saturday for 1/2 price had about the worst tasting pizza I ever ate. Casino brand frozen with extra fresh cut veggies taste much better. The cheese is very weak & has almost no pizza sauce on the pie. Service was great staff friendly. The other pastas looked better than the Pizza. But for 150 baht you get what you pay for. In the U.S. In San Francisco the same money would buy a delicious Pizza . But I have learned to aim way lower in Thailand. Service 9 price of beer 8-9 Pizza 1 maybe 2 out of 10. The bakery is quite nice. I live in Bang Saray.

BigC frozen pizza is indeed very good. I used to buy them often in Europe and I still buy them here, though they do cost more than double the price here (around 140B).

Robins nest soi dianna does a good buffet for 249baht on sunday. Dont bother with 18 coins, plain rip off

18Coins is generally very good on, value, service, and consistency (i,e no screw-ups). It would be a decent place to eat in any country -let alone Thailand. Their choice of meat is very good for the price. It amazes me there isn't a falang cook in their kitchen!

I can't remember the name of the place but it's on Soi 13 / 4, half way up on left from beach road, last bar before Penthouse hotel.

Great roasts, chicken beef, pork, lamb with full trimmings for about 250.

I think I would be more likely to move in the other direction to get good things at low prices. sad.png It pains me every time I go to a supermarket here that the same trolley might have cost me half or a third the price in Europe, and that I would have had a much wider choice as well. Even locally produced items are often very expensive here.

BigC is part of the French Casino group and has operations in many countries (they were/are the largest retail group in South America). They generally sell their Casino brand products in their stores and as far as I know in Thailand they bulk import themselves. For imported goods their prices here are quite low and I find the quality is uniformly quite high.

San Fransisco is in the US not Europe I came from the cheese capital in the States & Know good Pizza's . This country is a total bust when it comes to Pizzas or Mexican food. I was just saying the recommendation for the Pizza on Saturday in Bang Saray was next to hideous. The sauce was non existant & the cheese was even worse- It really didn't resemble any cheese I have ever eaten before. Velveeta or Kraft tastes better & that isn't saying a lot. Comparing to the Casino frozen the cardboard pizza tastes better Than what we had. Even Pizza hut here uses decent cheese (but far from a good Pizza) And not 150 baht either. But for 200-250 baht you get (2) 16" at Pizza hut (which is still about the bottom of the barrel in Pizza in America. at least the pizza has mushrooms instead of the pieces that are usually thrown out because they are not representable for customers to eat. I may try some of their pasta dishes. They did look very tasty & had lots of sauce in the ingredients.

Never been to Europe but someday I will check it out...... I am certain they whip up some decent pies there as well!
