Chaiyaphum hastens its own development to become one of "The Best Cities"

CHAIYAPHUM, 25 March 2014 (NNT) - Chaiyaphum Province is currently in the process of developing itself in accordance with the “3 The Best City” project.

In order to produce more income from the tourism sector, Chaiyaphum Province is currently trying to develop itself to become one of the best cities in the country to prepare for the upcoming launch of the ASEAN Economic Community or AEC.

Chaiyaphum Provincial Governor Pornsak Jiaranai revealed that the twelve year plan to develop Chaiyaphum is currently underway. The project consists of developing both the province’s government and private sectors, and to build a distinctive character to the province in order to attract more visitors.

Moreover, the development project is aimed towards attracting more investments to the region, in which the government sector would be providing its full support. Many public areas in the province have also been renovated and decorated such as the courtyard in front of the City Hall, monuments, roundabouts, and the City Gate.

In the long run, the province has been commissioned to be developed into one of the three best cities under the “3 The Best City” project - a city that possesses quality citizens, the best morals, pleasant surroundings, and high-levels of safety.

Have you visited Chaiyaphum?

What a let down of a city!

The only acceptable site is Tat ton waterfalls.

And they charge foreigners 100Baht instead of the 20Baht for Thais.sad.png.pagespeed.ce.5zxzyGiJz0.png

Are they worth a visit? despite the 500% mark up for farangs? I must admit I don't generally go to any place that charges so much more, I expect a double price maybe but more than that is just taking the pi$$

Sorry but it's my closest "large town" a long way to go to become a City, It's certainly in my top 5 worst places to go in Thailand, no malls, no-one speaks English anywhere & there are no places to relax over a beer, None of my Thai friends & relatives who've lived with it being their nearest large Town have a good word to say about it.... A %$"* hole of the first order.....

No malls? Sounds good. No English? Sounds even better. Must be a relaxing, untouristy kind of place. They should leave it that way.

Not really.

Last time I was there, it was full of school children, screaming around.

Not much water either, but may be during the raining season it will be better.

They have landscaped it nicely, and plenty of little shops for eating or buying souvenirs.

I would mark it 6 out of 10.

Post number 9 is the only one that I can relate to. the rest is crap coming from people that do not even live here and people that prefer something else than Chaiyaphum can offer them.

I have been living here now for 6 years and have a full social life which makes me happy,. I find Chaiyaphum to be a small town (in my eyes) but they are trying as much as they can to go on and develop. We have Home pro, Global House, MAKRO, Big C and Tesco Lotus.

We have places where we go i.e. saturday evening and look at widescreen-TV and premier legue, drinks and food, and we have hundreds of smaller places to go out and eat. We have a night market that is open every evening in the week, and we have quite nice nature to i.e. bicycle in.

I think that people that have absoluteley no hobbies and interests of their own besides drinking and bar-hopping will not succeed in Chaiyaphum, But people that are willing to live a good family- life they will have a nice life with good friends..

ps. Costas2008 - get it right for God sake..... 200 baht for falang and 400 baht if falang have a car.....Have you really been here?????

I visited the falls yesterday. Presented my Thai drivers license, Thai health insurance card & Thai visa card.... cost me 240 baht entry. But she did smile as she took the cash.

Yes, definitely worth a visit, even at the price. Good food stalls. Very clean & well presented. Plenty of water flowing yesterday. I'd give it an 8 out of 10.

Have to disagree with the local natives though. Might be a nice social town but compared to most towns / cities same size have to say my impression is it's a "dump" Disjointed, dirty, but hey, just my opinion. Sorry locals, we are all entitled to our opinions.

When somebody tells me he "knows" Chaiyaphum and than tells me he has been to Tad Ton the waterfall, I immediately knows that this guys doesn´t know what he is talking about. We, like you calls them, tghe locals, we never go to that place, a boaring place really,, what to look at... Yeahhh water big time.....

It is like saying you know everyting about that shithole Pattaya after being there 2 evenings and only getting drunk and get layed at Walking streetm, same thing....

But hey, that is just my opnion about people that doesn´t know what they are talking about.

I never understood what was wrong with double pricing. The waterfall belongs to the Thais.

Go to Disneyland which is privately owned. Show ID that you live in that county in California (Orange County) and you'll get a big discount. Maybe Disney is thanking the citizens of the county for maintaining the infrastructure that makes everything possible? I don't know.

Go to The Grand Canyon. It will cost you US$25 per car regardless of # of people. I have a lifetime pass to all US national parks that cost me $10 but you have to be a senior and a citizen to get it. (They recently added a $10 processing fee, but big deal.)

I don't see it as a rip. I see it as me paying a reasonable price, and the locals getting a discount.

thanks guys just new to this site hope to get to know you local guys

thanks again

Mark, IM me and I'll give you the number for the guy that built my house. Not the cheapest, but at least he could provide plans and engineering drawings. Often the adage, you get what you pay for, applies in Thailand in spades

Chaiyaphum, being a mere 40km away, I could not refer to as a city; but a large country town might be a more suitable description.

As big country towns go, I quite like Chiayaphum. It is a bit sprawling & a tad unweildy, but it's not a bad place - and it is growing. The past few years has seen Big C, Tesco, Macro, and others move in. As always, the incoming of the big chain stores means a lot of family business' will close, but that is how it is all over. We still have the family stores we will use until they are forced to close - what ever keeps some money in the area.

It has been known to have little problems with flooding...

Try Chanthaburi if you want a smallish regional city to visit. All the usual stuff that every town like Chaiyabpum has plus mountains and seaside (miles of beach) plus gorgeous cheap fresh seafood plus gems if you like that sort of stuff. Was there this weekend and was charged only Thai prices at both charged-for-venues on production of a Thai drivers license - Pliu Nam Tok (better than any Isaan waterfall Ive been to) for 80 baht and Oasis Sea World for 130 baht.

Isaan liver/lover, but not blind to its tourist shortcomings!

We built our 300 square meter house near Chiyaphum using local labour on day rates. build was designed and managed by me and the Mrs. Mort of the workers were farmers who had experience in the construction industry. The basic construction quality was good you just need to get somebody who knows what they are doing for the finishing. This was how I did it my way but they do need constant watching/management to ensure you get what you want.

I would just like the locals and any tourists to know that there is now a family run bar and restaurant with beer garden in chiayaphum, serving italian pizza, schnitzel, australian beef steak, and breakfasts. We are hoping to open on the 1st at 9am, open tuesday till sunday, free wi fi and pool table. We have been living in Khonkaen and have just moved to Chiayaphum, it would be good to meet some locals and get some more info on the province. We are next to KTM living mall.

Having lived in Chaiyaphum for over 2 years and now live nearby it is a good little city, we dont get ripped off with upped beer prices, there are many karaoke bars where you can get a cold beer (100baht) and a bar girl if u fancy one, there is a big C and a bloody good night market, many cheap food stalls and a leisure centre, Tesco lotus also has a food court and the people here do speak and understans english. It also has 4 bus stations so you can go nearly anywhere, ie nong khai korat bangkok even to Chaing Mai so dont knock it till you have tried it also there are quite a few farangs here.
