PHUKET: A Phuket Police officer has become the latest victim of motorbike theft on the island.

Sen Sgt Maj Narong Wilairat reported at 6:30am that his motorbike was stolen from in front of his police accommodation just meters from the main building at Chalong Police Station.

“My son used the motorbike – a red Honda Click Phuket license plate ‘Khor Kor Sor 81’– every day and parked it in front of our room every evening,” he said.

Sgt Narong explained that motorbikes were often stolen from in front of Chalong Police Station

“There are many motorbikes parked in front of the main building where they remain as evidence seized, but there are no CCTV cameras monitoring that area of the parking lot,” he said.

In 2010, the Chalong Police auctioned of 18 of the bikes that had been seized in drug-related cases

The lack of CCTV evidence has left Sgt Narong with no clues to investigate his own stolen motorbike.

“I’ll have to do the best I can and work with the case investigator,” he added.

Why is that? Certainly can't be considered an oversight, nor a budget breaker, and of course, not for a bike stealing ring to have access to motorbikes away from owners control.

Have absolutely no sympathy for this officer. My daughter had her motorbike stolen by the police in Bangkok and when she went to the local station to report that she had been told that police officers had taken the bike, they did nothing. They denied any knowledge and said that her bike was not at that station

She found her bike which they denied having whilst she was looking around the bike pound. However, it was not there, she did find her bike minus the tax and number plate and it was parked outside the police accommodation block in the same station.

Maybe the thief is a policeman...maybe a disgruntled check-point shakedown contributor...or was just borrowed to run a quick errand...at any rate...it will be given top priority...since it was a policeman's bike....

What everybody overlooks is the fact that the police had impounded the motorbike as evidence. This does not mean that a policeman (or the police force for that matter) OWNED that bike. That sergeant-major who let his son use the bike every day (perhaps to go to school?) did not have the right to do that. It will be interesting to see what will happen. Probably nothing.

It is also just possible that a court case will be thrown out because the evidence is missing...

The headline does read Police officers motorbike , but the person that took it proberly did not know who it belonged to.

It seems strange that people would steal bikes from outside a police station.
