Reports: Feds eye golfer Phil Mickelson in insider trading probe

The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Securities and Exchange Commission are investigating possible insider trading involving investor Carl Icahn and golfer Phil Mickelson, according to reports in The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.

According to the Times, the probe also includes well-known Las Vegas gambler William T. Walters. People briefed on the investigation told the Times that authorities are questioning what role Icahn may have had in sharing information about one of the stocks : Clorox.

The Wall Street Journal characterizes the investigation as " a major insider-trading probe."

Sources told the Journal they're investigating whether over the past three years Icahn may have given tips to Walters, who in turn may have passed on information to Mickelson.

Can't be true, he's a leftie

Martha Stewart's a leftie

Well, let's see how the world reacts to this one.
For Tiger, he broke no laws, but was hammered in the media.
For Phil, sounds like he may have broken some laws.

Without a mistreated gorgeous blonde in the story, it won't get much traction.

He famously wagered $20,000 at 22:1 odds (pre-season) for the Ravens to win the Superbowl in the 2000 season (Superbowl 35 in Jan. 2001), and won.

There have been a lot of stories/rumors re: his gambling activities.

There are also rumors that Mickelson and company bet another $20,000 on the Arizona Diamondbacks to win the World Series in 2001; they won. The odds of the D’backs to win it were priced at 38-1.

As long as he tells the truth re: insider trading he will be fine. If he prevaricates then he could get in trouble; this is actually (lying) what did Martha Stewart in.

He may suffer from loss of sponsors as they all have iron-clad contracts re: unacceptable behavior.

He will share the wall of shame with Tigerw00t.gif ha ha

Not correct. What tiger did was demonstrate an incredible lack of judgment. He could have still been on top of the world had he not been such a cheap Charlie and spent his $300k annual hooker budget. But, he insisted on freebies and paid a huge price for it. His lack of discretion, and his silly, immature promises are what undid him. Very dissimilar to what Phil allegedly did.

Not sure what you're trying to say. Tiger cheated on the wife. That's it. It's not against the law and he won't be doing any jail time.

Phil allegedly committed a felony for financial gain. If convicted, he could do jail time.

If only. His fault was hooking up with TGIF hostesses, flying them around in his jet, and promising them the world once they were naked. Childish, churlish, emotionally abusive behavior. He did not have to be such a man child. Nor a fool. But, he sure showed how small he was, as a half man.

I might have agreed with you before Martha Stewart/Imclone.
