Countdown to Photokina 2014 (September 16th).

What would you like to see? Realistic or otherwise.

Me:-

36mp MFD FX back with a usable ISO up to 1600 under $5,000 (Dream)

Canon EOS 5DMK4 with 36MP Sony CMOS sensor and 102,500 ISO. (Possible)

Fuji X-Pro2 FX 24MP X-trans sensor (maybe)

Panasonic to get their arse into gear and launch something new! (Unlikely)

Leica - nothing. I've only just bought my M240! (Praying)

Dunno. It's been mooted. Present 35/2.8 is too slow for me. More likely an FE 85/1.8 will be announced. Don't want that.

A7r2 something with a quiet shutter?

Nah. The shutters not really a bother. Going to wait for MK3 or 4.

Maybe a Mark iv Canon with a loud enough mirror slap to wake a sleeping Wilderbeast in Kenya when taking a shot in Athens !

Damn is there a silencer for this thing ? ( I am referring to the Mark iii . btw.) in saying this.

Still fiddling

Silent shutters in mirrorless camera bodies and suppressed shutters in DSLR's.

It's past time for this to happen & I seriously believe the engineering is possible.

Photokina rumours . . .

http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr5-trusted-sources-about-sony-at-photokina-focus-will-be-on-lenses-and-not-so-on-cameras/

First: This year Photokina will not be that exciting. It means that no real bigger stuff is coming from any company.

Second: Sony’s focus at Photokina will be on lenses more than on cameras (which by the way I think it’s good news as this is what we miss most now).

Third: Major innovative products will be launched in early 2015.

Fourth (the good surprise): One major good news will come soon for Full Frame E-mount. They said “you will love it”.

Hopefully Sony Zeiss come through with a fast FE 35mm.

Here's one. A cheaper alternative to the Atomos Shogun 4K recorder. Sony A7s can't record 4K internally and requires an external recorder. The only option right now is this Atomos Shogun thing and it's around US$2000. Either that or the A7s offers 4K internal recording via a firmware update.

This is what's holding me back from going the A7s route.

In 2015 I want to put together a 4K system. A 4K laptop, 4K monitor, GoPro Hero 4 (4K@30fps), DJI Phantom Vision 3 (if they do a 4K or use the Hero 4) and a Sony A7s. There is a genuine reason behind all this rather than just wanting the latest toys. I want to start producing video for companies commercially, especially in big construction/infrastructure projects. This includes drone video (for low level aerial around sites, I will need a CAA licence), GoPro video (attached to plant etc) and normal video on tripod . . . .all 4K capable or 1080p at 120fps.

It's not looking too expensive to put all this gear together and much more will be available next year.

Lots of autofocus adapters for the A7 from third parties like DEO-Tech.

A Pentax K to Sony E AF adapter which is fast would be perfect.

Is a Lumix GH4 any good? 4K recording.

More likely a dedicated video camera would be better.

I've seen great reviews. The GH range are really video cameras that take stills..

Leica announcement

Not surprised really as they did the same with the M9.

I won't bite......................Well, not immediately anyway.

8000US$ and no Leica logo, <deleted>.

Nice but not at that price, I think you can buy (or soon) a near similar Fuji x-pro2 at less than 25% of above price.

4K laptops and 4K monitors.

A 15" 4K laptop and 28" 4K monitor perfect for photographers and videographers.

^ both exist already . . . (and remember...4k video editing will require one heck of powerful ($£$£$£+++) PC to take on, and achieve decent/bearable rendering times)

me? i'm looking forward to the Canon 7D Mk2 & the PowerShot SX60 announcements. . . .

They do but choice at the moment is scant and quality of overall systems poor.

Asus GX500 4K is out soon and Samsung is aiming to produce 4K monitors for around $400.

To be honest . . . 4k vs 1080 on a laptop screen = negligible discernible difference. I've seen it.

it's the HUGE size of those 4k video files that worries me though . . .

I was just about to buy a Sony RX100 M3 but then I had a closer look at the latest rumors.

It looks like Canon will launch a direct competitor to it and even perhaps a new RX series from Sony with a curved sensor. Panasonic is also rumored to launch a compact with micro four thirds sensor and what about Fuji?

I think I will keep my money in the pocket for now and see what is coming.
