Blue Crab Bank Launched in Hua Hin

HUA HIN:-- On 11th August 2014, the Deputy Governor of Prachuap Khirikhan Province, Ms. Suwanna Anantakitphaisan chaired an opening ceremony for a Blue Crab Bank on the beach in Hua Hin.
Marine habitats, especially blue crab, in Prachuap Khirikhan are decreasing in number due to overfishing. The aim of the Crab Bank is to impact on this problem.
Apart from increasing the number of crabs, the project aimed to honour Her Majesty Queen Sirikit in celebration of her birthday on 12th August. The opening ceremony included releasing marine animals back to the sea and raising the awareness of local fishermen to preserving marine flora and fauna. The Crab Bank will also serves as a role model for water management. The marine animals released back to the sea included 83 female blue crab with eggs, 499 young crabs aged between 15 and 19 days, 7,500,000 young blue crab aged 1-10 days and 500,000 tiger shrimp.
The event was also attended by the Director of the Bureau of Special Affairs to the Royal Aide de Camp Department Admiral Suwan Tansuwannarat, the Chief Fishery Officer of Prachuap Khirikhan, Mr. Jitjarun Tantiwala, the Chief Fishery Officer of Hua Hin Mr. Wattana Nokkaew and the Chairperson of the community of Takiab fishers Mr. Montree Phongphanit.
