BANGKOK: -- A Christian church popular with Nigerians for preaching the gospel was raided by police Sunday after complaints from its neighbors.

Narcotics and immigration cops descended on The New Life Praying Ministry on Soi On Nut 44 to search for signs of drug use and check the legal status of its members, reportedly in response to noise complaints.

There were about 100 worshipers at the church yesterday, all of whom were reportedly Nigerian.

It was an evangelical church for pity's sake.

If they expected to find drugs in such a place then their intelligence gathering unit is short of intelligence.

These people actually believe their is a god and do not look kindly upon drug use at all.

As for proper documentation, well that's another story....they'd probably say the Bible is all the documentation they need or some sort of BS or other.

I know of a Nigerian cocaine dealer that attends this church.

He came over here illegally, pedals his drugs (some though Thai women who should know better) and prays there on a Sunday.

The way he sees it his family live in abject poverty back in Nigeria and he does what he can to support them.

Search a church for drug use is perfect Thai logic in the face of two dozen dealers in plain sight down lower Sukhumvit every day of the year, but that would hurt them in their own pocket wouldn't it?

It's not really a church, is it.

If you've a complaint to make, then inform the authorities. No point banging on about it here, is there?

An excellent result with twenty illegal immigrants nabbed.

i dont like the police raiding a place of cult heavily armed

Tough. Seems like a good result to me. Twenty per cent of the congregation busted for illegal immigration status.

Wonder if you'd say that if you had to fly back home to get a new visa.

We were all crying recently simply because of the border runs crackdown. And I also wonder if you're properly documented.

Not all Nigerians are drug dealers.

Remember the Nigerian soccer star who was lured to Thailand on a tourist visa? He said when the visa finish, many have to become gigolos for older Thai women. And these women want to have sex all the time.

Actual quote, 555

He should have been deported for being a lucky git...

Everyone knows Nigerians in Thailand are drug dealers. Does anyone do much about it? No. Deport the ones without proper documentation.

probably.fight them and deport them but let the place of cult out of this

sometimes monks abused of their positions and committed crimes.however i never heard the police and heavily armed soldiers raiding a temple

You should get out more eg Pattaya Police raid Casino operating in a temple

Sick puppy if you like a police state...different tune with arms turned your direction, wouldn't it be? Surely this was overly dramatic given a noise complaint.

About a 'sick puppy'... the noise complaint is the means used to obtain a search warrant, in a same way it'd be done worldwide, don't you know! How to know some people won't turn violent at the scene, can you, therefore the arms, plain normal procedure too.

And a 'police state', oh boy, the Thai State should have, very long time already, incarcerated and deported all, every, any non-Thai not in possession of a valid visa, period. What do you think such people, here Nigerians, live from in Thailand? Any honest activity, do you think? No, they can't have, as they're not even here, officially.

I don't say Nigerians, Nigerians only, are involved in drug dealing, pimping/prostitution, credit card scams, extortion, racketting, aso, aso... But turning a blind eye on it will for sure NOT make it go away! Go have a walk on lower Sukhumvit and side Sois, look aroud, not at the pavement, but at what's happening around you, start with the neighbourhood of 'Soi Cowboy', or around 'Nana Plaza', what the Central Africans do there ...?

Have sweet dreams, don't forget to kiss your teddybear, and from tomorrow on: get a life!

P.S.: You don't work for or collect for some money-consuming self-anointing NGO, do you? And is your visa OK? What do you smoke and swallow?
