Ban electoral fraudsters for life call
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- National Reform Council member Sayumporn Limthai has proposed banning people found guilty of electoral fraud for life as an effective way of curbing electoral fraud.

Sayumporn also said that the Election Commission's job of organising nationwide elections was overwhelming and should be transferred to the Interior Ministry.

The EC should focus on regulating elections and looking for fraud, he said.

There should also be changes to how the EC commissioner was selected, he said.

Up until now commissioners were recruited from former judges, but Sayumporn proposed selecting them from various professions so that they had a better vision and a better ability to work with people.

Another NRC member, Wanchai Sornsiri, proposed not only banning electoral fraudsters for life but also banning their spouses and children for life to prevent them being put forward as nominees.

another sound good proposal, which seems to be a trademark of the majority of committees formed/appointed to straighten out another cock up made by someone else.

has anything ever been done as intended/correctly in this country, reviewed, modified as needed, and those responsible held accountable?

it seems to be Standard Operating Procedure here to view certain issues from an individual not national perspective so officials, lawmakers etc see hefty penalties from a " what if this ever involves me / people like me " attitude.

electoral fraud, yu'p ban for life and fines, as for banning husband/wife/kids, <deleted>??? how on earth can that be justified? banning a person who didn't do anything wrong other than being related to a cheat, would never fly in a normal country, I think the NRC member that suggested that, well their village is missing their idiot!!! blink.png but hey, TIT.

This part is ridiculous: "Another NRC member, Wanchai Sornsiri, proposed not only banning electoral fraudsters for life but also banning their spouses and children for life to prevent them being put forward as nominees."

It flies on the face of any sense of justice to punish people for the crimes of a third party.

What the should do is to, on top of banning impose severe financial and incarceration penalties. A crook may think it worth the risk to be banned if he/she can then just use a stand-in, if the risk is loosing their ill gotten money or ending in jail they'll think twice about it.

The problem is/was that after banning they still keep in power by just putting the wife/kid/sister into position.

Putting them in jail would be a good alternative.

Quite a few PTP examples of that practice. Banned himself wife runs while he keeps in power. So its not that strange though you have a point. But for Thailand, yes ban their family too.

Ban electoral fraud?? Isn't fraud/corruption the Thai way of life in a nutshell?? Might as well ban prostitution

If the opportunities for corruption are equal on both sides of the election (have and have nots) what is the problem? I mean if both guys get to bring a gun to a gunfight what's the problem? It is obvious the better shot will win or with an election the most popular.

No it's not. It is like saying since all football players have a helmet if you want to play football you should have a helmet. (American football). Americans politicians are all corrupt and take money but they have an equal opportunity to take money.

Banning wives and children is not stupid. It is idiotic. Seems a bit like "going for a Shin" to me.

Does the UK, USA, France, Germany or Australia ban family? No? Wonder why? When was the last time; Henry VIII? Get with it guys this is not medieval England and you don't have a round table or magic sword.

Time to clean the house before it becomes similar to the one in USA.

So what would be wrong with that? Economics, education, housing, opportunity, infrastructure, movies, go go clubs, restaurants. Sorry I see nothing happening in the USA that would not be an improvement over what is happening in Thailand.

All that are paid by future money, through debts to be paid by the unborns.

How many families are living day to day on trading stamps and credit cards? How many graduate college with a decade of debt burden on their heads?

History has proven that the most popular is the one prepared to pay the best bribes, and hire the best liars. Or to put it more simply, the richest. And we have seen the result of allowing power to be bought.

History has proven no such thing. Look at Barrack Obama (net worth 10 mil). He only had chump change and the money spent on election was Obama: $1.123 billion vs. Romney (net worth 250 million) : $1.019 billion.

You know what the big difference was even though Romney was far richer; FACE BOOK LIKES - 23,479,089 TO 1,128,492.

In your previous post, you pointed out the difference in productivity and hence income. How difficult is it to understand that the difference affects the susceptibility to accept bribes; that the lack of a critical press, independent accounting, and poor levels of education lead to gullibility and acceptance of unworkable populism and blatant lies like "you will all be rich in 6 months".

BTW the topic is Thailand.

Your statement above is nonsense. If you think it is not nonsense support it with some historical links.

You get what you pay for. Is it cheaper to buy an election or change of government by force? Look into those prices and you will have your real answer.
