Not trying to be pedantic but, after 30 years, you probably know that the Cambodian language is Khmer rather than Khmen (which seems to be a fictional language labeled by local Thais who cannot pronounce their "R's").

I believe that "Poot Khmen dai" should really be "Poot Khmer dai" smile.png

Wrong. You are transfixing an English word onto a different language. What we call the language in English has no bearing on what it is called in a different language.

It`s no different than French people calling English "Anglais."

Unfortunately not Tully.

It is the general Thai inability to pronounce R's and 'L's' at the end ie it is why we get Aresenon and Footbon - solely because the Thais can't get to grips with the word. Khmerrrrrrr is the same.

Ironically, in Buriram province they are better at pronouncing R's - my missus can roll her R's perfectly............... (as in Khmerrrrr!)

Cambodian translates as Khmer (there is no such word Khmen) but it is spoken as Khmen for the reasons pointed out by 'youravinalaff' who is a local cunning linguist.

This thread is about some poor chap that is dead. NOT about the spelling of one word. WAKE UP. Condolences to his friends and family.

Yes, good point, I apologise.

Despite some insensitive comments, I agree that this thread is not one on which to debate the Thai language. sorry.gif.pagespeed.ce.HIAcli9fRMpIEuy7H .

sounds like an inside job , was the apartment or any property in joint names ? or money in joint names ? and did his wife or girlfriend know or have a relationship with a police officer ? if the answer is yes to any of these its obvious what the answer is , also any DNA of other people in his room ? did his wife or girlfriend disappear to the family home while all this was happening ? and is now partying every night with the local police chief ? your absolutely right why would anyone consider residing in thailand especially out in the wilds of burriram i myself only stay in civilization of bangkok or pattaya where there is plenty of witnesses and after trhe winter months are over go back to real life about april in england.

Surely you jest, the "wilds of Buriram: would be far safer than Pattaya.Have you ever been north of Sukhumvit?

Khmer Rouge enclave - I know we tracked them in '73 and they disappeared into Thailand - yep you guessed it - Buriram..........remember the song 'They smile in your face' well, I always got chills the way the Khmer old men in Buriram looked at foreigners. I once helped a girl from Nana relocate back home to Buriram (forget the town) her brothers, uncles, Father and every other old man came out to help unload my truck - she made no bones about - "it was time for me to get back to Bangkok, not safe here"

Never been back since. some of the cutest girls I have seen though, and ugliest women.

Are you scared of 80 year old's now, attacked by walking stick.

He asked, I answered - wouldn't want everyone to think the Mafia controlled the place now would I?? I also lived in Phnom Penh for two years, 95-97 and have visited Cambodia a dozen times since then - you mention Burirum to them and the first words out of their mouth is "Aaah, Pon Pot, Khmer Rouge" sorry about the ugly women comment - they do seem to get old very fast around there, must be somthing in the water. I stand by the rest of the rubbish.wai.gif

You do realize you answered something two years old right??  but to respond to your response, Not "NO but Hell NO"  -  it was all those guys around that had big lumps in their waist bands, pistol grips for sure.  I did drive my white ass out of there as soon as the truck was emptied, diplomatic plates and all!!  This incident was in mid-2000.

When you live there for as long as i did,for over ten years. You see and learn a lot.Its not speculation. They are just not reported on the news anywere.remember the police are getting there cut aswell to cover up.The most common suicide  are The boyfreinds paid freinds of your wife help you jump. Then the farrang who has been conned out of all his money and to embarresd to admit to  all his freinds who warned him.Yes these are suicides but a crime was commited that pushed them over the edge. The deaths of the farrangs who have been over drugged by the Kathoeys. When they were robbed. And there are those that just go missing for no reason.(speculation this last one.I may have said year in my block .i meant the hundreds i heard off.over the years.
