Boehner: 'Virtually impossible' to pass Obama force request
By DONNA CASSATA

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker John Boehner said Tuesday it will be "virtually impossible" for Congress to approve President Barack Obama's proposed authority for military force against Islamic State militants.

In a meeting with a handful of reporters, the Republican leader said Obama's proposal for new authority is stalled months after Obama requested a three-year authority that bans "enduring offensive combat operations" for U.S. troops.

Boehner said it made no sense for Congress to give the president less authority than he already has to combat Islamic extremists, who have captured parts of Iraq and Syria.

"Until the president gets serious, there's no reason to give him less authority," Boehner said.

Congress has held several hearings on Obama's request, issued in February, but the authority has languished.

Boehner, who recently led a congressional delegation to the Middle East, said he wants U.S. forces in Iraq to have a larger role in planning and directing Iraqis trying to combat the Islamic militants. He stopped short of saying the U.S. should send more than the 4,500 troops in the region.

Boehner expressed frustration with the administration's strategy, saying he repeatedly heard two questions from U.S. allies — where's America headed or is America abandoning us.

He echoed the administration contention that Syrian President Bashar Assad has to go after years of civil war. Boehner maintained that Islamic State militants are a more serious concern than Assad.

"His power base continues to shrink," Boehner said.

This is nothing more than two criminals arguing over who wears which pair of pants before going out to kill someone. The results or consequences of this utterly stupid issue are a moot point.

No bias in the Daily Kos is there?

And you complain about Fox News?

Radically opposite politically and professionally.

Daily Kos didn't call Boehner a traitor, a secret jihadist, a socialist, an illegal immigrant from Kenya via Indonesia, didn't say Boehner surrounds himself with Muslim Brotherhood advisers who are secretly fellow members, didn't say Boehner is hell bent on the destruction of the United States as we know it or so on.

However, people who Foxnewsspeak say all of these particulars and more are true and therefore valid to assert, whereas readers of the Daily Kos never read any such things, nor do they say or recite such garbage as emanates from Faux and the other extreme lunar right mass media that we used to see a brick wall of here throughout the day each and every day.

Of course there is bias in Daily Kos. There just isn't any garbage from politically deep space aliens in it.

The U.S. Allies he's talking about is Israel, it's a very sensitive topic and most U.S. Citizen don't understand why U.S. are supporting Israel with economic support specially since we need a lot of support in U.S. itself. But everyone seems to be afraid to ask the question. When it comes to the Republicans the only thing they understand is war, they can't wait for a republican president so they can invade Iran. Boehner himself is so fried from all the wine he's consuming so he's so far from reality anyone can come. I personally hope another war in the Middle East are off the plate and font happens, I'm afraid for the citizens reaction and another big demonstration and rallies like with the Vietnam war. People are still angry about the Iraq war. When it comes to the president he have done a hell of a good job with the health care and gay rights but the Republican KKK can't accept that.

The U.S. Allies he's talking about is Israel

Actually it has nothing to do with Israel, and more to do with ISIS internal US politics. Besides which America has more than one Ally and they have all been asking where is America going with it's foreign policy under Obama.

Boehner you are a useless waste of space.

Don't complain, he was democratically elected by the people and this is the governmental system that the US promotes/tries to enforce on others!!

Prayuth doesn't have any problem dealing with type of thing now having implemented article 44. so that urgent and necessary matters can be addressed expediently and without hindrance when and where it is needed to solve problems.

Bizarre request by a sitting US President...

I can only imagine that Obama wants to later...be able to point out that Congress reduced his ability to confront ISIS...taking away his ability...

Such are the tactics of US politics these days...the Dems think far ahead to get their advantage over the Repubs...

It is time for a fundamental change to the way that US government leadership operates...

I think you are on the right track. Obama is trying to hamstring any Republican president saddled with fixing the mess he himself created. Of course by then he will be alternating between the golf course and sundry well paid speaking engagements.

How nasty from Obama, he should hand over the country in the same impeccable state it was when he started his tenure. ( Where is that damn sarcasm emoticon)

By the way, I think he's not gonna leave anything to a republican president any time soon.
