Furniture craftsman district in Bangkok?

Featured Replies

I know there are little enclaves hither and yon for specialty trades. Is there a neighborhood where a lot of furniture craftsmen have shops? I'm looking for some decent quality pine, oak or poplar planks. I want to make a small table-top lectern and the plywood sold at most local shops is garbage.

Try along the Khlong at Saphan Fa below the Golden Mount. There used to be a whole row of wood shops but I'm not sure of the varieties available. You can also try Bang Pho, the soi is about 1/2 km long and lined with small shops on either side selling everything wood, furniture and construction related. If you are a wood person it is definitely worth searching this place out and spending an afternoon browsing

I just did a virtual walk down the street using Google street view and that certainly looks like the place for woodworkers. Thanks.

Wish I had have seen Klong Songs' post 2 weeks ago when I was in BKK looking for someone to build me a custom desk to send back. It would have been cheaper no doubt than getting the woodwork mafia here to make anything.. they want to charge me 2000 baht per hour plus materials..

There are also 2 streets out by Bang Sue MRT / train station

Wood , wood doors , woodworking tools , and too many shops !

sorry I do not know the name....
