BANGKOK: -- Chinese civil aviation officials will arrive in Thailand on May 16 to check the safety standards of four Thai chartered flight operators, starting with Nok Scoot.

The Chinese officials will also check the safety standards of Orient Thai, City Airways and R Airline to determine whether they are safe enough or require improvements before they are allowed to fly to China.

Mr Piya Yodmanee, CEO of Nok Scoot airline, said he was confident that the airline’s safety standards would pass the tests. He added that the Chinese government had changed its aviation policy by not promoting chartered flights but would prefer scheduled flights.

Regarding the forthcoming audit of the safety standards of Thai chartered filight operators by International Civil Aviation Organisation, the Thai Civil Aviation Department has notified 16 Thai chartered airlines for a discussion in June prior to the arrival of ICAO officials.

The Thai Civil Aviation Department is required to come up with a report on its progress in the supervision of aviation safety standards for ICAO on June 2.

One could be facetious and say all will pass however just to make it fair one will fail, all the rest it's Beijing or Bust.coffee1.gif

so a discussion / meeting, then..... that will convince the foreigners that Thai standards are high....

If the Chinese can help remedy the deficiencies, then chok dee. Despite all the mockery we westerners make of China's aviation sector, it has done alright. It too needs to improve, but China's aviation sector is no worse than that of some other western countries. The commuter and "rural" airlines of North America and the EU are not anything to boast about.

Guess the PM's visit with the Chinese was not for nothing. The Chinese will move mountains to increase their influence in the region.

I was just reading yesterday how 12 Chinese people attempted to open the door whilst in flight on Chinese airlines this year alone. Best they take themselves to task first methinks
