Anti-rust paint in Thailand. Hammerite?

Recommended Posts

I need to refurbish a rusty patio-umbrella support so that it doesn't stain the tiles it's standing on.

In the UK I'd use Hammerite for this: after wire-brushing the metal, you paint it on and it halts rust and gives a textured, semi-gloss finish.

Is there anything like this in Thailand?

Can I in fact get Hammerite itself?

I'm based in Rawai, Phuket.

Many thanks for any advice.

@IMHO

Brilliant, thanks!

Just checked it out online and the Rust-oleum "Hammered" brush-on paint is exactly like Hammerite.

I can get quart tins of this paint, online from DirectToShop but I think i'll try Home Pro first, they might have it.

Would you need any primer/undercoat or can this stuff go straight on ? I need to redo the underside of my lawnmower since the original paint had been worn off over the last 15 years and is down to the metal, which although bearing up well, is browning...

Hammerite can certainly go on without priming, just remove loose bits with a wire brush, make sure it's nice and dry, and away you go.

I suspect Rust-o-leum is the same but read the instructions.

I bought some Rust-Oleum at Home Pro yesterday. I chose the paint-on product.

I couldn't get the hammered finish version so I settled for their Protective Enamel product which they say can be painted over rust just the same. For a longer-lasting finish I bought their Rusty Metal Primer as well. Finally, I got a tin of Rust-Oleum thinners and I'm glad I did because they say you can't use turps, mineral spirit, petrol or lacquer thinners.

I wire-brushed the metal, lightly sanded it and washed it with soap and water, as recommended.

The primer coat is setting as I write. It went on very easily and the thinners cleaned the brush incredibly quickly.

So far, so good!

I painted my gates and fence about two years ago now. Rubbed the paint down quite well and quite a bit of bear metal was exposed.

I applied two coats of Rust Oleum and to date I don't see any rustor paint flaking off.

Be careful ...HomePro sell two types of Rust Oleum. One type can go directly onto bare metal and rust ...the other type requires a primer. The tins don't look a lot different so read whats on the can!
