BANGKOK: -- Drought problem ranks the Number One subject of public interest followed by anti-government protests by students in a recent opinion survey conducted by Suan Dusit Poll.

The Suan Dusit of Rajabhat Suan Dusit University conducted random survey of the opinions of 1,468 people during June 29-July 4 about what they were most interested in out of ten issues. The full results are as follows:

Drought issue, 87.19 percent; 2. Student protests, 83.92 percent; 3. High prices of consumer products, 79.29 percent; 4. Constitution, 73.84 percent; 5. The murder of former entertainment tycoon Somyos Suthangkoon; 6. Elections, 71.93 percent; 7. Greece’s debt crisis; 8. Thievery and robbery, 64.15 percent; 9. Siam Commercial Bank’s controversy regarding Rajabhat graduates; 10. Thailand’s debt problem, 57.22 percent.

Drought situation garners the attention of most respondents because it has far-reaching economic, social and agricultural repercussions and they have sympathy for the farmers.

As for the protests of the Daodin group of students, respondents believe that the protests will reignite political conflicts which will affect the government’s stability and the image of the country.

I love how they throw in this last sentence:

As for the protests of the Daodin group of students, respondents believe that the protests will reignite political conflicts which will affect the government’s stability and the image of the country.

The report gives absolutely no basis for this assertion, as the only statistics related to a basic awareness/concern.

Being that the majority if the voters are in the rural north i find it hard to believe these people have access to daily news. If so then i find it even harder to believe people make their own opinions about most matters and just worry about daily life. The fact that dusit pushes so many unbelievable numbers on people makes it very hard to believe anything they report abouy what the people say.

Note that the numbers are not even in order, ascending or descending, maybe just in order asked. Further, the declaration that "respondents believe that the protests will reignite political conflicts which will affect the government’s stability and the image of the country," is an imaginary response to a question that was not asked (I spoke to someone who was polled). In descending order, the poll could have said this about people's concerns:

1. The drought issue (the total failure of this or any previous government to demonstrate water management foresight) , 87.19 percent; 2. Student protests, (and the ongoing strangling of democracy to eradicate a single family that threatened the status quo) 83.92 percent; 3. High prices of consumer products, (and a lack of price controls to benefit those at the top of the food chain) 79.29 percent; 4. Constitution, (and a lack of one, as well as how the new Charter will be certain to appoint committees and senators so the poor never have a voice in governance again)73.84 percent; 5. Thailand’s debt problem, (which is another way to offer broke people loans, legitimate or illegitimate, to make sure they never financially succeed) 57.22 percent 6. Siam Commercial Bank’s controversy regarding Rajabhat graduates; (where a bank only accepted applicants from 14 of Thailand's 200 universities) 10 percent; 7. Greece’s debt crisis; (a problem only investors would even be concerned about) 8 percent, The murder of former entertainment tycoon Somyos Suthangkoon; (which comes in at dead last, but was flashed in there at number 5) 6 percent.

Glad to see the older and younger people are getting smarter. Drought issues are more important than a bunch of young adults that are old enough to have babies and under stand the law. Protest were paid for and have 80 attorneys fighting for them. If Thansin love all the farmer how much water could he have bought

instead of paying for 80 lawyers. He does not love the farmers just your votes which he will try to buy again!
