Disgraceful witch-hunt you got criminal evidence of corruption? arrest her! not make up laws and rules as you go everyone I speak to knows it's vengeance 'Thai Style'

nothing wrong with rice subsidies happens in all countries go look up Europe (Common Agricultural Policy) or American farmer subsidies

I know this may sound off topic to you but do you have any idea what the charges are against her?

I will give you a clue.

She is NOT charged with corruption.

My advice to you before charging into the discussion with both feet in your mouth is to read, resarch and understand what she IS charged with.

Then perhaps you may learn something.

Thoroughly vetted verdict from this arm-chair quarterback says, ...

She's toast.

Their gonna hang her high and these guys must be having wet dreams with this "Rice Scam" case compared the auction case against her brother...

Now, the open question is still the same - will they let her 'slip away' like they did with Thaksin, or do they toss her in the klink and make her a martyr?

Wonder what the dinosaurs are thinking now.... whistling.gif

Actually I feel very sorry for her and her family.

Her brother Thaksin made sure that she would be the PM, he picked the cabinet members who would actually run the country, he effectively ran Thailand from the safety of another country safe from punishment.

I assume that he assured his sister that if she followed his guidance all would be well for the family and for her.

Sadly for her he cannot keep his promise and he did what he usually does when there are problems. To keep himself safe from harm, Yingluck was pushed under the proverbial bus as happened to brother in law Somchai Wongsawat and all the other hangers on as ministers and flunkies when Thaksin has no further use for them.

Nothing must be allowed to harm the Imperial Master.

Further example: jatuporn, but the penny hasn't dropped, maybe never will.

tell me why the farmers were pissed off then and some commited suicide. they hadn't recieved any money in a long time before the banks weren't allowed to pay anymore.

I can tell you... want to listen? (probably not)... the banks refused to lend the government money to pay the farmers but MIRACULOUSLY did when the guys with the guns took over - amart rak amart

would be more honest to start their own political party called ARA and try and get elected

I wonder how, in your little world, you reconcile the fact that of the 700 billion or whatever, over 500 billion never made it to the farmers. Where do you think it might have gone ?. Did the spirits who live under your bed take it ?.

I don't suppose it bothers you too much. That's why we have other people running the country now.

We've seen plenty of vengeance - Thai Style, at the end of an M79. It's about time the medieval throwbacks joined the rest of the world in the 21st century. This is a start - but only a start.

This is the sale price difference versus total cost incurred. There is no inference that the money was stolen. Just lost.

Well it's an important difference. It is a policy that lost money. Not a theft she is accused of. But those wanting to change the discussion often refuse to notice this difference.

May I transfer you 100 Baht per month so you can buy some newspapers?

wrong rice on stock

wrong storage

rotten rice

non existing rice, with huge constructions under the rice to let the warehouse look like it is full.

rice that self ignited and burned away without trace

etc etc etc

Nothing wrong with subsidies...wrong is the corruption.

But don't worry she won't go in jail, or not longer than 1 week. Never seen rich/influential people go in jail in Thailand

Good points, but are they able to prove she was aware of all this?? Did she order the scam?? Did she get any of the ???Billions??? of Baht?? Lots of quiestions markls, because there are lots of questions still to be answered. I stopped reading about this soon after it was reported, because where did all that information come from?? Investigative Reporters?? The Police?? I agree, she wn;t go to jail, or ifshe is sentenced, the appeals process will take so long she will not see the inside of any prison in Thailand, more likely "House arreest in her mansion"

No, nothing wrong with rice subsidies at all, except when................................................

Voice of America, Feb 6, 2014 -

http://www.voanews.com/content/thailand-controversial-rice-scheme-risks-ruling-party-popularity/1845588.html

..............................."The rice pledging program encouraged over-production and made Thai rice uncompetitive for export, ballooning government spending by billions and creating a mountain of stored grain.

A Chinese company Wednesday pulled out of a deal to buy over a million tons of stockpiled Thai rice.

The collapsed deal struck a blow to the government's efforts to off-load an estimated 20 million tons in danger of rotting in warehouses.

Ammar Siamwalla of the Thailand Development Research Institute says the program also appears rife with corruption.

“Very shady. And, most of it is in the disposal of the rice, in the sale of the rice," he said. "And, it is not shady, it is completely dark... Because no figures are ever revealed."

The rice pledging scheme in 2012 cost Thailand the title of world's biggest rice exporter, a position it had held for three decades."...................................

..........................except when it is a so-called subsidy devised and carried out by a bunch of bumbling crooks.

That this devilish plan crashed and burned I can believe. That there are still people out there desperately defending the smoke and ashes, well that is hard to swallow. facepalm.gif

The comment is not at all frightening, just your overreaction to try to deflect. You continuously tell posters to provide links but you never do it yourself, you just deflect.

But you are indeed very frightening. And what you obviously support is also very frightening and is not in the best interests of a balanced civil society with a better quality and equal justice and equal opportunity of life for all Thais.

Frightening? Just Red.

Moreover are hating the now administration who were not elected may I add, for trying to clear this loss of money incurred.

You are delusional

They made up laws as they went along? I think the theft of 500 BILLION baht was always illegal.

Criminal evidence of corruption?.. Isn't that what this case is for you numpty?

Vengence Thai style? So investigation of pretty obvious 'gross neglegence' is now to be considered vengence rather than a straightforward investigation and case to hear both sides of the story.

You clearly support corruption, I wonder why that would be?

What Thai family have you married into?

Have you the slightest clue how stupid you post is?

Unfortunately (now there's an understatement if you like) the "Medieval Throwbacks" seized power in a coup last year, and are now busily taking Thailand back to a time well before the 21st century!

Come on people. She isn't accused of theft.. She is accused of continuing the scheme knowing it would incur large losses and doing nothing to stop it.

It's a reasonable case but nowhere is it stated she profited from it.

The money was paid out and costs incurred and they exceed the value of the stock by 500bn. If they can prove it is criminally negligent so be it.

I have my doubts but better to stick to the facts of the case than have people ranting about theft and the such.

I distinctly recall reading in a major Eng.lang Thai newspaper about her bro, Thaksin, expressing his full support for the rice scam. In was August, 2 years ago (s) while Yingluck was still in power. No surprise that, instead of helping farmers much, the funds mostly went to already well-off Chinese-Thai big shots - just the sort of people who are chummy with the Shinawatres. The smallest farmers, fogedabowdit. They probably didn't even know where to go to get the forms to fill out - and then found out they were too small-scale to qualify for any payments.

I am still amazed what kind of view from responsibility some have here.

She was the chairwoman of the rice committee.
In this position she has taken on the responsibility for one of the most important economic industries of the country.

To be the chairwoman of the NRC is the same as the captain's seat on a 747 Jumbo.

The captain (YL) presents its flight path (the rice scheme).

The weather experts say it is madness ever fly away, it will be impossible to achieve the goal.

(There were countless warnings from subsidies experts worldwide, that this rice scheme will never work.)

The captain is insecure and has little experience.

Then the CEO (Thaksin) of the flight company (PT) sends his co-pilots friends (PT-Ministers).

Order: The flight must be conducted (they need the votes).

The Fuel Tank officer (internal administrative officers) on the ground informed, that the fuel (money) will last for only half the distance.

The chief mechanic (international subsidies experts) on the ground informed, that there is a hole in the fuel line (Corruption),
and he expected that 30%-40% fuel (money) will leaking out.

So the Jumbo starts.

After the first quarter of the flight, the fuel gauges (BACC: no money) are already on reserve.

The air traffic controllers (press, opposition in parliament) offer an emergency destination to bring down this madness flight.
The captain ignored all warnings.

The engines go out. Some passengers in their panic jump overboard (Farmers who killed themselves).

The Jumbo crashes and the wreckage is widely scattered (rotten rice in the warehouses).

The damage is incredible, lost the aircraft (700 Billions) and all passengers dead (rice industrie).

The owners of the airline (the public) have to bear the loss.
Miraculously, only the pilots survived.

The pilots are now in court.

So what was it?

- negligence?

- malfeasance?

- irresponsibly

- supervision violation?
- dereliction of duty?

If the defenders (lawyers) then say, the captain does not know how to fly an airplane,

then I would suggest prison.

Well she is certainly not looking too pleased with herself.

It's been interesting to see the photos of her along the way. All have been photoshopped, like this one totally overexposed where her face is. Looks like the press has got a photo with a facial expression for every single occasion. She should've gone into acting with that repertoire she's got. Although I suppose she did.

I enjoyed the sarcasm, mainly because my Thai wife does not understand sarc one little bit so it is wasted on her. She thinks I am just "talking bad" to her. Which is why I appreciate the cutting remarks made on TVF.

Talking about cutting remarks, this is my favorite Tweet -

"The most cutting thing you can say when someone enters the room is "who's this clown?" because it implies they're a) a clown & B) not even one of the better-known clowns." cheesy.gif

And I got a laugh out of the Thank you three times by KIWIBATCH.

But I bet the posters who actually defend this woman's intelligence must cringe every time they are reminded of that incident. biggrin.png

Ignorance is no defence but, in your case, you do try to present it as such

Even the researchers at the arch-conservative TDRI point out that 300 billion baht went to farmers and that farmers had a nearly 600 billion bhat increase in direct and indirect revenues combined.

EJ has had me and other posters point out the facts of the program - as bad as it was - to him, but he refuses (apparently) to either read the information or to go out and find the information for himself.

So in his case, ignorance doesn't seem to be a defense, it seems to be his offense...

Always believe the 'facts" from any Thai body if they happen to suit. Otherwise dismiss them.

I think I'll prefer the WB report.

if you want to go argue with the TDRI, then feel free.

I just read their stuff and understand their bias.
