A good 40inch TV as PC Monitor.

Featured Replies

Most computing is watching football, movies, videos, etc on the computer nowadays.

So would like to upgrade from my 24in Full-HD monitor to a Full HD TV, due to size.

I would be happy with a 32inch, but almost all of them are only HD (1368x700 or whatever it is). Ones that are Full HD (1080p) are the same price as 40inch Full HD ones, pretty much.

I believe it's best to go for one that is a 60hZ panel? not 120 or 240.

Also need to research the 'Input Lag' online, because the manufacturers don't specify it.

So is anybody using a Full HD 40 inch as their PC monitor, and would they recommend that model?

Thanks.

Just got my 48 inch and remote keyboard with mousepad. 22000 well spent. Parking my butt on the lazyboy recliner instead of my horrible desk chair. Never had anything better.

Can wear my farsighted glasses without straining. Do it!

Ensure it has two HDMI connections!

Your double posting.

Or that chair is too relaxing. smile.png

Do like the idea of not needing reading glasses however.

Depends if you are comfortable at a desk and keyboard or if you can work further away - expect for desk use 32" would be enough - and full HD is available except for the cheapest versions.

Bingo, Lazy boy as well here and just bought a 55" tv as a gaming monitor and its AWESOME!

All you need is a laptop stand and put your wireless keyboard on it for typing.

All great, but no recommendations. :D

It won't be far away, a 32incher would be fine, but....

Looking on the usual sites. Powerbuy, IT City, Lazada etc etc. All the 32 inchers are only 1366x768.

It's as if Full-HD 32inchers aren't for sale here....

Look up TCL brand the biggest TV maker in China. Bought on line at Cdiscount on special 16500 bht

just read you want a 32 inch. My advice is always get the biggest you can afford. I'm already used to 55" kind of wished I went 68

I'm using my 40" TCL LED40M3610 that Big C occasionally puts on sale for 8,990 baht. That's what I paid for mine.

Working fine for me as a monitor in 1920 x 1080.

My Samsung 32" 1920 x 1080 also works fine. It cost 14,000 baht, but that was 4 years ago.

You must have a different Lazada than I - 3rd item listed at 32" is full HD (and actually have one so know it is available).

Thanks.

Tip one, if you want somebody else to search for you, tell them that it doesn't exist. :)

You don't notice any input lag?

When you move the mouse, there's no slight delay in the pointer moving?

None noticed. I've fed it through the VGA port and the 2 HDMI ports with no problems. I've also been using a Dell laptop docking station with an adapter cable between its funky video port and HDMI, also with no problems.

BTW, the fact that it actually has a VGA input is a plus nowadays as many newer TVs don't include a VGA input.

In fairness, I don't use it for gaming so I can't tell if it's fast enough for graphics intensive gaming.

Edit: I also set up the video properties to extend my desktop as opposed to duplicating the 2 screens and notice no difference in response when I move the mouse from the laptop screen to the 40" screen. It's seamless.

For gaming get a 120ghz refresh screen and no lag as long as your hard ware is up to the task

I'm on a 42' LG works great. I can't remember the price.

View from this sofa, this is where it will go.

About 2 feet away while typing, about 4 feet away when sitting back on the sofa watching movies etc.

Current monitor is a 24in Full-HD.

A 40 incher might be pushing it. biggrin.png

Forgot to give the information.

It is a 48 (49?) Sony, purchased last month in the new Home Pro mall on 121 North, Chiang Mai. TV store at the first entrance on left side of building. 21,000. It has two HDMI and limited wifi connection capability for YouTube and Media sharing.

AIS Fibre gives me a free Android box...no need for a computer, but I use the second HDMI for my laptop (Linux Puppy and Windows 7). So I can switch between 3 operating systems.

I'm using SHARP AQUOS LC-39LE155D2 @ 1080p50 as my computer monitor. No problem for browsing, and watching videos. I don't play games.

I was looking for the same thing, well. 32" TV that was FullHD and all the shop people were looking at me like I was mental and kept trying to get me to buy a 40" or bigger TV

which was not going to happen since I was getting my monitor for an Arcade Cabinet and 32" is already almost too big

I felt like they thought that like putting 1080p on 32" TV was advanced technology or something

a lot of 7-8" tablets are 1080p, the 5.7" display on a Moto X is 2560x1440 (or 1440p at ±520 ppi pixel density) which is 77% more than FullHD

when they gave me that "stupid farang!" look I usually took my 5" phone which is 720p, same as their 32" TVs

in the end, after a lot of research online, I found a few of them that were FullHD but the general refresh rate of them was too slow for me

I ended up going with an AOC I3284VWH for 10690 baht in Hua Hin which has 5ms refresh rate.

I can't live with the hardware blur, slow refresh rates, higher price for lower tech and other weird things that the TVs do and didn't care for Smart TVs

also, if I was not using this monitor as an Arcade Cabinet display, I would never get a TV regardless. much rather get a 27 or so 4k monitor or one of those lovely 1440p 144hz ones,

depends if you like smooth or higher resolution

I use a 50" Sony TV plugged on a mini PC to watch my favorite movies. I also have a 26" Samsung that I got for free when I bought a new fridge that I use to watch TV in my office but I don't find it comfortable for office work (excel, answering mails ...), too big and too bright for comfort at short distance, for that I prefer a standard 19" monitor.

Expect you could turn down the brightness/contrast on the TV as with a monitor? I find only need about 25% for normal computer work on my monitor but for watching video prefer about 50-60%. Post cataract IOL eyes do not want too bright.

what specs should you look at for a 40-42 inch TV to use as a monitor ?

and how hard is it to do 2 screens like the old picture in picture ?

a main screen with a smaller screen in the corner or edge of screen , and when you click the small screen it gos full size ?

thanks

  • 2 weeks later...

go on ebay and get a korean monitor. They sell for a fraction of the price and they can lower the price on the package so you end up paying barely any tax on it

I got a 30" 4k monitor for 250$ (a normal regular 30" is 1000$+)
