Belgian tourist rescued after drifting in sea for 5 hours

"Anyway, I am Belgian, and I can tell you all Belgian women look like that. But what we are most proud of, are our Trappist monks..."

Not that there's anything wrong with that, 555.

I read Westvleteren is the only monetary left where the monks still brew the beer. And even they employ a few "laborers".

From wiki:

"Sales are limited to one order every 60 days per person per license plate and phone number. Also, the beer must be reserved on their "beerphone" beforehand"

Must be made with the tears of Jesus!

Really good luck for the lady, especially as around fullmoon there aren't to many fishingboats out there. Dangerous because of the currents, but no sharks there (as somebody wrote before), if you're really lucky you could meet a reef shark, absolutely harmless.

Who told you there are no sharks there?

Generally speaking, if an ocean is healthy, there's sharks. Has this area been overfished so much there's no food sources here, so sharks are seldom found???

Here's a map showing the range for Great White Sharks, which includes all of the ocean around Thailand and Asia:

Also, that must be a local superstition about fishing on a full moon. Fish that are nocturnal feeders can see better on a full moon and are more active. In fact, reality seems to be very different than superstition, 555:

"Full moons play a more significant role in saltwater fish movement due to the increase in tidal fluctuations. A super high tide lets big fish move shallower than normal"

Well good that Nantaphong seen her , give her dry clothes bread and ovaltine and took her to the hospital. Here on Thaivisa its the norm with Thai people in the news , that the good is never remembered the bad never forgotten. Lotta very good people out here , maybe depends on where u live .

.............He wouldnt have rescued her if she'd been ugly...........whistling.gif .

Well actually I was thinking along other lines, that she was doubly fortunate she got a boat full of good guys.

The wife is saying that Thai news outlets are saying a suicide attempt and then a change of heart.

That's what I thought from the start.

Nah. She overestimated her kayaking skills. It's quite difficult to get into a kayak in rough water. She probably flipped over and couldn't get back in. And it drifted off.

About the sharks; my Thai friends told me and i've spent very much time in the waters between Haad Rin Nok and Big Bhudda, swimming and fishing with my friends. Never seen one. You're right though about overfishing, that's a sad fact since many years already. They don't fish around fullmoon not because they're superstitious, but because they're fishing with light to lure the fish, what's much more difficult at fullmoon when light there is everywhere.

If you get away from the tourist saturated areas the Thai people are as nice as can be and are helpful as can be also. A few years ago I had a small accident with my tractor and Rotortiller , I stopped a guy with a pickup and he took me back to my home where the wife took me to the hospital for a few stitches. I love the small village where we stay and the people there.

There are still many Thai's with "good hearts" even in tourist areas, problem is the Thai's looking for a fast buck congregate there too...

Thankfully not all are out for the fast buck! I was in a long tail once and we towed in a boat that had broken down! No one expected money.... just very thankful! for a tow back to shore.... thumbsup.gif

My view on this rescue is:

#1 she should not have been out alone.... especially if not experienced...

# 2 It's not exactly been good kayaking weather lately!

But someone was quick to make a few bucks by renting her a kayak rather than than advise that it is not the best time to kayak and certainly not alone. sad.png

Suppose they are now chasing her to pay for a new one.

You mean 'well and truly', and, for the 3rd time, I was joking!!! Thats what whistling.gif implies.

Those that have are not here to tell us....a statistically biased report.
