Impossible to reduce threat of IS terror to zero: Europol chief

THE HAGUE: -- The “complexity” of IS networks means governments can never “reduce the threat to zero” of further attacks, Europol director Rob Wainwright said in an interview with euronews on Thursday.

The former British intelligence official was speaking to euronews correspondent James Franey on the sidelines of a meeting of EU interior ministers, who were meeting following the attacks in Brussels on Tuesday.

“It is clear that there are links between the attacks here and those in Paris,” the Europol director said, “The network spreading between those countries, and maybe further, is the priority of the investigation.”

“We have to understand the gravity and the complexity of the networks that are up against,” he said. “It is not simply possible in those conditions to reduce the threat to zero.”

He said that at least 5,000 Europeans have gone to Syria and Iraq, but officials do not know how many have returned due to “fragmented intelligence” on those individuals.

“It is not always so evident that they are indeed confirmed terrorists,” said Wainwright. “It is a highly situation that we face in Europe. One of the most challenging that I have seen in my career.”

Of course, you can't reduce the threat to zero, but here you have a well organized and large group of people carrying out attacks in two countries, some of whom have been stopped by the police in a third country and at least one whom was deported from Turkey for terrorism.

The current security situation has really large holes it, so it seems.

A little more action and little less hand-wringing would be in order.

Large holes is an understatement.

Sadly, hand wringing is what the majority of the EU has been reduced to, with the exception of a few Eastern European Countries, who continue to defy the EU mandarins.

EU mandarins

What is that?

Small oranges that are perfectly round, without pips, peel easily, leave little pith when pealing and taste wonderful, sweet and juicy.

EU has decreed oranges must grow this way in order to be badge as "EU Mandarins".

All part of EU quality enhancement standardization program.

Thank you euro chief interpol for your enlightening message........and for re-inventing the wheel.

Go take a walk, and ask your boss to fire you, you failed miserably in protecting Europe.

Rather a disturbing statement seeing as the up to date news now says they planned for something "radio active". They found footage of surveillance of the Belgian "nuclear chief". Maybe a plan to kidnap him so they could gain access. Now a number of nuclear plant workers' passes have been revoked.

Yes, right. European governments have preferred to spend huge amounts of money on bombing the Middle East while reducing police and security resources at home. They may be waking up now but it is a little late.

The Cologne police chief was fired after that nice little episode on new Year's Eve. He had asked for at least a hundred more officers to be on duty that night and he was refused. Easy to blame security forces when they don't get political or financial support.

And that right action is unified army, security services and police going into these no go enclaves and neighborhoods where there are bomb making factories.

Rounding them up,revoking their passports and putting them on boats back to countries of origin going back about three generations.

History shows us that despite the best efforts of the security services, the terrorists will sometimes get through.

For obvious reasons, we do not know all the measures being taken by the security forces, nor how many terrorist attacks they have successfully thwarted.

Though we do know of some; for example Two convicted over moped drive-by London terror plot.

Although there have been mistakes made by the security services and cross border cooperation needs to be vastly improved, as they have admitted.

But the truth is, whatever the security forces do, sometimes the terrorists succeed; as the terrible events in Brussels this week and too many others before have shown.

As the Provisional IRA said after they failed to kill Thatcher in the Brighton bombing "Today we were unlucky, but remember we only have to be lucky once. You will have to be lucky always."

Unity is one key to defeating the terrorists. The British government made many mistakes during the troubles; the biggest being internment without trial. These mistakes alienated the communities within which the terrorists hid and recruited from. The result was an upsurge in support for and membership of groups like PIRA.

It seem that certain people have not learned the lesson of this.

We need the continued support of the Muslim communities in Europe if we are to defeat these murderers. It is, after all, within those communities that the terrorists hide. Continued demonisation of and attacks upon those communities will diminish that support.

Those who paint all Muslims as terrorist supporters who want to conquer Europe and impose their religion upon us are doing the terrorists work for them.

The highly capable Director of Interpol is absolutely right. He has been warning the EU and European politicians

for a long time but his advice has always fallen on deaf ears. Also, the proposed agreement with slimy Turkey is

not going to solve this enormous problem. It is:

utter stupidity X (1 + 28).

You will never beat terrorists. That's already a forgone conclusion, But why are not good Muslims turning in bad ones. Why are Good Muslim Country's not forming Army's to combat bad Muslim Country's . Maybe where there is a will there is a way. Or maybe No will .

Read this story and perhaps it will give you a better understanding of the term good and bad Muslim.

A post on Thursday from an account that appears to be Mr Shah's said: "Good Friday and very happy Easter, especially to my beloved Christian nation x!"

The man was killed only hours after this social media post was made.

2 men have been arrested, both are Muslims.

This is quite hopeless. Turns out the Belgian police knew full well the "secret" hideout of Abdeslam, but chose not to move in on him - presumably due to PC and the police's fear of being labelled racists or nazis. We need an urgent change in attitude. PC, or the practice of telling bald lies to make deviants feel included, needs to end right now. Otherwise it's just a matter of time before they detonate the 1st of their radioactive bombs. That one of them was a technician working at a Belgian nuclear power station for 3 years is staggering. Are there others working at European nuclear installments, flight crews, chemical plants, defense companies? Speechless.
