The application is called Translate Voice. It does so in a myriad of languages. English - Thai and vice versa . you want Cebuano-Thai? You got it. I'm tried a few examples English Thai, such as imagining that I need help in the hospital. The translation is verbally Plus in written form. Syntax problems are common but by and large the result seems to be understandable. Patience is required after pushing the speaker symbol. Try it out and tell me what you think. Any better application for English Thai translation is welcome.

Reminds me of the old Spike Milligan joke re translation................

"I ordered my meal in French and the waiter brought me a cup of Fairy liquid and a plastic replica of the Pope covered in custard".

Decades and billions have been spent on the ultimate automatic translator.

All the big players come up again and again with this.

The results are "academic at best".

It works for "easy language pairs" and simple correctly built sentences.

If you use Google Translate or MS Bing (Facebook) you know what I mean.

This app not only they promise automatic translation but also voice recognition and speech synthesis (!) in in x languages.

If this app is the magic key then you should rush to buy stocks/shares of the company to become a billionaire.

The closest you get to an understanding of a Thai text, are the sites/apps that split the text to words and translate word by word.

For German/Thai there is excellent dictionary/word by word translator. Cost about 800 Baht (clickthai.net).

It does also a good job for phonemic search.

But that's for German/Thai.

As other automatic translators this one will also create a giggle about the "I" (I want ...).

As they don't know your sex they will use the female form (chan).

So you talk like a girl tongue.png

Well, I think this tells absolutely everything you need to know

The bullet entered his mouth coma ......................... And people are buying food in bulk.

How much more descriptive can it get?

Well, listen to voice translation. It's good enough to make your life easier than if you cannot utter 1 word in Thai.

Didn't mean to offend you, however I was merely commenting on what others had said.

I actually do use voice recognition software on my computer (Dragon Naturally Speaking – Nuance) and find it very good although it does make the occasional blooper, no matter how many times I train it.

If I had a smart phone then I would give the app a try, however I am still clinging on to my old candy bar Nokia as I want nothing more than a mobile to answer telephone calls.

You play the Xylophone?

No, it's just a name which occurred out of a quite amusing incident some 25 years ago so I won't bore you with it.

On the subject of the Nokia candy bar phone, I've got a friend of mine searching high and low to try and get me one which operates on 3G, but on a recent trip to Malaysia he was unable to find one, however he is due to be in Bangkok next week and will look in one of the big shopping malls (MBK??) to see what he can find.

I have found some available on Amazon and eBay, however I fear that they will be impounded by Customs if I order them from overseas. Sorry going off topic.................
