A police captain shot dead in Ban Pong district police station by his subordinate

BAN PONG: A police sergeant major was arrested after he fatally shot his superior at Ban Pong district police station in Ratchaburi province following a heated quarrel Saturday night.

Witnesses said that the victim, Pol Cpt Sayant Chaichoke, the deputy inspector for traffic affairs attached to Ban Pong police station, arrived at the station late Saturday night after finishing with his field inspection of the setup of road block at Kok Mor intersection in the municipal area.

The police captain was then reported of a heated quarrel between one of his subordinates, Pol Sgt-Maj Thirapong Pothong, a traffic police squad leader, had a heated argument with Pol Snr Sgt-Maj Amnart Charoenchai, also a traffic police officer who also serves as driver to the police superintendent.

Pol Cpt Sayant then demanded to see the two men in order to settle the dispute and when he saw Thirapong hold a service pistol as he approached him from the downstairs, he ordered the latter to put the gun back in its holster.

But Thirapong, apparently still in a foul mood, refused, prompting Sayant to try to grab the gun from the former’s hand, resulting in the fatal shooting.

It was reported that six shots were fired from Thirapong’s 9mm automatic pistol and four of them hit Sayant who was immediately rushed to the district hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The alleged gunman escaped from the police station in a motorcycle-taxi but was later apprehended.

all i seem to read this year is about shootings/killings, and today i read 2 guys killed over a false number plate deal, one of them supposed to be a good samaritan.

Probably arguing about the split up of the takings from the 'road block' !

I was thinking that. How can someone who is responsible for a forearm (which is to be used only in extreme circumstances to uphold the law in life or death situations) be trusted when he can't control his emotions even in the police station with fellow officer.

It's the bloody "face" thing again and the lack of conditioning for dealing with confrontation. It's either calm and nothing or "kill the bast*rd" and never the twain shall meet.

I have often raised my forearm with no evil intent and under quite calm circumstances.

In most countries this would be a big story but in Thailand it is just another day at the office.

A lesson to be learnt ,don't get angry at the police even when they are trying to fleece you ,remember they are children in adult clothing

Watch the video. After the victim was shot and on the ground appearing dead, five seconds later he then shot him again.

No - it doesn't! In Chicago 100+ Police officers are not murdered by their subordinates as a consequence of a (probably) trivial argument every month. There is a different kind of violence for different reasons which is not a topic for discussion here.

Inability to forsee consequences pervades Thai society and is often seen most clearly when it comes to safety issues, driver behaviour, speedboats, jetskis, electrical safety etc. It also turns up in the education system - teachers assaulting students, students assaulting teachers, murders inspired by vocational school rivalries - and amongst those with the right to bear arms, police, military personnel, wealthy or influential private citizens.

This murder I would suggest is a manifestation of it. Primitive emotional response coming before rational thought processes have an opportunity to suppress it. I think it is probably learned behaviour to do with the way children (particularly males) are brought up in Thai families. That seems more likely than a genetic defect in brain function.

how many time in the last 12 months, we did read that a police officer was murdered by another officer? I remember several case!
