Toyota dealer is saying that my oil needs to be changed every 6 months no matter the amount of kilometers. Can anyone give me clarification on this

Honestly it might be a good thing but 4 oil changes at 9000 km in 18 months seems excessive. I cant get a clear translation of whats required. It is a budget car that needs luxury maintenance.

If your service manual recommends it you should do it. Toyota considers a number of factors when recommending timeline vs mileage in your manual.

Food for thought I had a car which I used to just drive 1 weekend a month 1000km max per year after 9 months water vapour plus a rich mixture created sludge and I blew the motor.

Since then I always change at 6 months no matter the distance travelled.

They use poor quality oil.

My Triton is also supposed to be serviced with an oil change and filter every 6 months, but because I only do low klm's the Mitsu service centre only changes every 12 months. They still stamp the log book and do basic maintenance checks, but no cost.

Looks like it is what it is and ill pay for new oil every 3000 km ;/(

Because that is who i couldn't understand "the Toyota dealer"

We have a Vios, which is pretty much the same apart from a slightly larger cc. We change the oil every 12 months (although we take it for a service check every 6 months) and the dealer has never had a problem with that. The book is all stamped and up to date. Some dealers will try it on if they think you don't know any better.

you'll need to keep to the toyota schedule to keep the warranty. once the warranty is over you can decide to do longer intervals. i think that with a good oil and low kms, then once a year should be okay.

Makes me wonder if oil breaks down in an engine that is hardly ever driven ....why every 6 months? 10,000 kms is ok for a change of good quality synthetic oil. More often that not, I never made the cut off - doing about 15K kms a year. I just serviced at every 10K kms and the dealers always seems ok with it. But they again I never made a warranty claim for a damaged engine (over many years).

I only do about 4000 kms a year but to keep my warranty (with Ford) i service it every 9 months. After 3 years i am not sure what to do, just have 12 monthly oil changes, with Ford or another garage? The services are not expensive yet but probably excessive for such a low mileage.

So the differing opinions of the non-Toyota experts here have clarified the issue? What you should do now is to take the replies you've received here to your dealer and ask for them to be clarified.

Sounds like the dealer you use wants you to believe them, go to another Toyota dealer.

Maybe change the oil from new at 6 months then after that every 10,000k or 1 year whatever comes first.

As said already good quality synthetic oils these days are exceptional.
