Bluebottle warning-Jellyfishfree beaches

Featured Replies

Hi,I had the plan to drive to Phuket next week, but today I read in bkkpost of Bluebottle warning. Are there any jellyfish free beaches[Karon,Kata,Patong, etc] in Phuket or near???

Thanks in advance for any input

There is a Portuguese man o' war warning, not bluebottle.

Nai Yang and Nai Thon beaches are closed.

Take care though, rips are dangerous and a lot more deadly here than jellyfish or man o' war.

A blue bottles the same as a PMOW

Thanks for reply, well actually we want swim in ocean, here in Chonburi,Rayong,Trat, the beaches are either dirty or have jellyfish[Koh Chang].Swimming in swimming pool we can do anywhere no need to drive.Last year we drove to Chumporn,Prachuap and Petburi, same same, either dirty or jellyfish

Went for a surf in the morning at Nai Harn yesterday and a swim at the same in the arvo, luck of the draw really, you'd be very unlucky to get stung but you never know!

Well,I have 3 kids with me so no need to try.1996 I was in Naiharn last time, only 1 hotel and a few small bungalows at that time, but also tiny white and blue jellyfish already

SL they are the same jellyfish. And completely agree the rips are most dangerous

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect

You're right, confused them with box jellyfish. I guess the calling them a jelly had me confused ?

Just to make things interesting, the PMOW is not even a jellyfish. Jellyfish are a single organism.

The PMOW is actually a colony of different types of single-celled animals that have become specialized.

It's known as a Siphonophore.

Very true, that's what I alluded to already in my posts.

It has changed a lot since then, plenty of hotels around. The small white jellyfish are still sometimes to be found though :(

At least they are not really painful, just irritating and annoying, killing the fun of swimming. When they are there, there's pretty much no way to avoid them.

Yes, but, just to confirm what I already knew (O level biology).

You've got an Fn good memory then!

:ermm:1996...that time locals and foreigners alike was less greedy and accepted and advised that once a year its low season in Phuket and water activity is not recommended, just as Kilimanjaro not are recommended to climb all year around.
