Cheap printer/scanners Canon MG2570S v HP Deskjet 2132

I am thinking of buying a cheap printer/scanner/copier for occasional home use.

Seen the Canon MG2570S and HP Deskjet 2132 in Big C for less than 2000 baht.

does anyone have one of these and has any comments, or any other suggested models in this price range?

I do not need a fast printer or any expensive features like Wireless printing, but I need something reliable and that has ink that won't dry up too quickly or cost a fortune to replace.

Thanks

They are cheap but will probably get their money back by expensive inks. A laser printer/scanner combo may work our cheaper in the long run.

eg Brother has cheapish mono laser printer/scanner combos.

I did own an ink jet printer and laser printer, the latter being cheaper to run, especially with cheap compatible toners being available.

A few weeks ago I looked at a Canon multifunction (Print/Scan/Copy) which not use color cartriges, instead this one can be refilled with color like that one at the link below.. also available in thailand...

There are different models, but I like the idea. Because my old canon printer, has always expensive costs, if I have to refill all cartriges... With the above model you can refill the colors by yourself.. but I not checked the prices of the colors to refill.. but would guess should be cheaper..

.. Maybe some person already have one of this new style multifunction printers and can give some more information...

A few years ago I was shopping for a printer.  Compared the price of a new printer, that comes with all the ink canisters,  and the price of a full set of new canisters for when the original ones run out: the price difference was such that the cost of the printer itself was around US$20.

Forget any inkjet if as you say ' cheap printer/scanner/copier for occasional home use'

even the ones with refill tanks, still dries out/clogs up..  I have had plenty here, cost the earth getting them working again..  if you do buy inkjet then remember often the ink cartage supplied is a 'tester' and last no time at all.. my last Canon with Ink cartage,  the 5 refills cost far more than the printer/scanner/copier  cost..

over 2 years ago bought a Laser Brother DCP-1510, at the time was on promotion @ 2,300 baht..

Just for reference:

If I ever need to print colour then just pop to next Village to a print shop..  anything I want to copy in colour save to PC or USB stick and take to shop.. they have 5 big copy/printing machines + a Laser Colour printer that cost over 200,000 baht a few years ago, so far better than any home machine.

I have a Epson L210 inkjet printer/scanner/copy machine but sadly as posters before me mention, you will have to print regularly in order to keep them function properly and the cost of original ink for many printers is very expensive.

Above printer is fairly cheap to buy ink for as you buy bottles and fill them into the tanks, so 4 bottles (Epson bottles) are something like 1000 baht and you can print a lot with that.

Sadly even when using original Espon ink, the A4 photos I print out, fades quickly so I bought a laminating machine (they are cheap) and laminate all my photos before hanging them on the wall in my office and they seems to last okay.

Due to working overseas for 2 month at a time and the printer is not used, the black color printing is not working properly anymore and I tried everything but no, so when printing a test document I have to use high quality print settings (using more ink) to get a black & white test document I can actually read. A pain in the ass.

I was once considering buying an A3 printer as I am a photo buff but above make me realize that it's bad idea and better do like ingis said in his post.

As noted in earlier posts, you cannot beat a laser for firing up and printing, first time, every time. Even colour units are inexpensive these days.

Although I have a decent A3 inkjet I spend more time getting it going than actually printing, my colour laser multifunction just works (but it's A4 only).

I bought an HP Ink Advantage 3545. It has been great being able to scan, copy and print. The ink cartridges last much longer than other models. I had a Canon printer and the ink head went bad. I had the choice of buying a new ink head or spending the 2,500 baht for the new HP. I don't use the printer very much so an ink jet suits my useage just fine.

Many thanks for the feedback, might have a rethink if is worth having my own printer or just sticking with using a local copy shop for my printing/scanning. Laser seems like a better idea if I can find one for the right price.

A Brother or Samsung mono laser printer 2000 baht.

A Canon scanner 1700 baht.

Works every time you turn it on, cheap to run.

Just got these delivered yesterday and although not Canon or HP, Fuji-Xerox are a good brand. I got these primarily for our maintenance crews working in remote areas (or locations where printers/scanners aren't available). I got these direct from Fuji-Xerox, but they are available on Lazada as well as many other places. Point of note, these are not colour printers, however will scan in full colour.

I know you said you didn't need wireless, but at 3,300 B, why not have it? These are lasers, and we went for this option, as others have said, because they won't be in continual use and we don't want inkjets clogging up when needed.

Yes, I do this.  If you use a USB pen drive to shuttle your docs, though, there is the risk of malware infecting the drive.  In Malaysia I would put this probability at 99% -- every time I had to print out an Air Asia boarding pass this happened, except for once.

Best solution if you have a little more space. I've worn out 3 printers to 1 scanner.

Laser much more practical and all you need. Not worth printing in color; for the few times you need photos, let a shop do it, so cheap.

BTW, just in case, it's good to check for Linux drivers for any printer/scanner you choose. Brother and HP are generally good about Linux support. Quick check here: http://www.openprinting.org/printers. But the mfg's site will tell you definitely.
