RAYONG: -- A driver of a Honda City and his female passenger had a miraculous escape after hitting a tree in the central reservation on Sukhumvit Road in Klaeng, Rayong.

Ekachai Jandaprap, 38, and his girlfriend Phakamat Sae-na, 35 had to be cut from the vehicle.

But they lived and were taken to hospital.

Police understand that Ekachai was taking his girlfriend to his hometown in Sisaket when he fell asleep at the wheel heading towards Klaeng.

Lucky he crashed where he did.

Had he gone further, towards Sisaket and fallen asleep, there may well have been other vehicles involved, and further carnage on Thai roads.

Fell asleep at the start of a long drive...that's planning or intoxication?

They had the best amulet protection.

Again proof that Thai's don't get enough sleep.

Last time he drove to Sisiket there was no tree there, so it can't be his fault. He only wanted his 40 winks

I know it has been cut about by emergency services, but that looks one hell of a mess, both very lucky!!

They say that Thais can sleep anywhere, any time. It's a pity that so many do it behind the wheel.
