Engagement ring in Bangkok?

Recommended Posts

Finding jewellery in Bangkok seems very easy, but I'm guessing that some places are reliable while others aren't. Can my fellow forum members be so kind and point me in the right direction? Where should I go to get an engagement ring, without any risk of getting scammed?

Of course I could visit a place like Cartier at Siam Paragon, but then I'd pay a boatload of money just because of the brand.

Jewellery Trade Centre (Galleria) next to Holiday Inn on Silom Road (river end). Lots of shops, outlets catering for the trade so competitive prices.

But most shops/stall are open mon-fri about 11am to 6.00pm, only some open Sat, and almost none on Sunday.

Is it a Thai girl?

I would get cubic zirconia and call it a day.

I know many guys that for some reason their ladies happen to "lose" rings, jewelry soon after receiving them.

Just a thought.

I found a fairly nice silver one on the top of a tall can of Chang. Cleaned it up a bit to remove sharp edges, GF was pleased as punch and I got to drink the Chang myself. Win-win.

Hmm guys I have to bump the thread once again.

Thing is, I'm looking for a platinum or palladium ring. Not gold.

I guess I wont find that at the Chinese gold shops, right? I will however take a look at the Jewellery Trade Centre in Silom next week.

Actually the Palladium shopping mall does have a jewellery floor in the basement. Palladium is diagonally across the busy junction from the Platinum Malls which are in the Pratunam Area near Pantip Plaza.

As to whether they have platinum or palladium rings I do not know, but you might find a nice handbag for the future missus.

Indeed - my Wife's engagement ring is 3.5 ct....  it stays in the safe, we had a Cubic Zirconia replica made which she now uses when we attend 'events'....

... another friends Wife actually left her ring next to the sink when washing her hands... fortunately 30 mins later it was still there.

.. for some, walking around with 100's of thousands of Baht on a finger is asking for a little too much trouble...

A CZ replica is definitely a decent solution.

Total waste of money.

Applying western thinking again.

Not really...  My Mother in Law wears an engagement ring...  there is no 'once size fits all' when attempting to generalise in Thailand. There is usually a whole spectrum of  'typical' behaviour such that each situation is only handled intelligently based on its individual merit without sweeping generalisation screwing up a logical approach.
